Hello everyone, recently I got admission for PhD program for fall 2013. Me and and my husband was planning to have a baby by end of my first semester and then will take break after delivery for a while before I rejoin the program. Kindly suggest how feasibile it will be studies along with pregnancy. I have been awarded for GRA(graduate research assistantship) so does it may get affected due to my break in the course. I am new to US educational syystem, kindly suggest on my situation. Actually I am already 30+ so cannot wait more to have a baby.

I would say that it depends on your field of study. in the department that I am employed, we have had 3 grad students take a leave of absence from their Ph.D. studies for babies, but that may not be practical in your field...

I don't know how to have you ask without possibly jeopardizing your GA opportunity...Where will you be studying?

If you see this, leave this form field blank.

Dear Shawnn,

Thanks for your reply.
I will be starting PhD in Toxicology from University of Maryland. Basically I was thinking of taking the leave before start of second semester.

Kindly suggest
