Please Help! This Is Important About Finger-Foods!

Some finger foods that our son enjoyed at that age were....fresh steamed veggies of all kinds, fresh fruit of all kinds, pasta with homemade cream sauce, homemade pizza, homemade hummus and pita bread, beans of all kinds, dried cereals, cubed cheeses, cubed tofu, homemade veggies egg rolls, jelly and cream cheese cubes, homemade granola bars, whole grain crackers, whole grain gold fish, homemade trail mix without nuts, cucumber and cream cheese sandwiches that are cubed up, cubed meats of all kinds, homemade sweet potatoes french fries...I enjoying cooking if you can't already tell. Explore all foods and enjoy! :)

My son was underweight too... But he caught up... don't worry about the doctors averages... he will catch up...I wouldn't make to much of a big deal if I was you!

Feed him healthy foods - not cheesys or cookies - it's a bad habit to start him on so young. Give him soft meats that have healthy fats - salmon or tuna (not out of the can). At this point, he probably doesn't have to have babyfood anymore, just give him whatever you are eating - chopped up small enough for him to eat safely. Babyfood is so nasty, I probably wouldn't eat it either - LOL.

Just feed him whatever you are eating. All 4 of mine started eating "adult" food starting around 7 months.

Take a can of beef stew warm it up in the microwave drain the stew off and give him the veggies and meat it's already cut up super soft and tasty (IF he has the teeth for chewing the meat that is) it's good for him and you can do the same with the Chunky soups that is what we fed our oldest when the Doc said she was underweight.

i also freeze gogurts so when my neice or nephew want a pop they are getting calories that count not pure sugar.

steamed and soft veggies, mashed potatoes, more fruit. No cheese or cookies because they are empty calories. Avocadoes are a good food to eat, pastas. Just begin to introduce everything you eat but just cut it really small and make it soft.

I had the same problem with my daughter except her weight was an issue at 2-3 months old. We went through this for a couple months. Now at 9 mo old we are where we are supposed to be. The dr told us to add more scoops of formula to the bottles to add calories. Avocado has good fat calories, mashed potatoes with melted butter and basically more food. If you go to babycenter.com they have a food chart of how much babies should be eating and how much by certain ages, its a helpful guideline.

I would cut back on the cheesies and cookies, as they're really just empty calories. The bananas are a good idea. As well, you can give him cut-up avocado, which is high in calories. Cheese is also good as well, as are eggs (scramble them into large pieces so that he can handle them more easily).

I also wouldn't stress heavily about the weight just yet. Babies that age often lean out quite a bit due to added mobility. Does your child look healthy? Does he have lots of energy and pep? Are his eyes bright and his cheeks full and rosy? Is he making a good number of wet and soiled diapers?

Some babies are just lean. As long as you are giving him enough food that he's not still hungry after a meal, and as long as you are feeding him a nourishing, well-balanced diet with lots of healthy fats, then please don't get too stressed out about chart numbers.

Give him soft-cooked cubed veggies like carrots, potatoes, broccoli, etc. Tofu, cheese, cheerios, green peas (I rarely cooked them for my babies), macaroni, finely-cut meat (chicken, beef, etc.)

Cheese omletes, cheese/meat quesadillas with avacado, peanut butter toast (test for allergic reactions first), meatloaf, Carnation Instant Breakfast added to whole milk (if you can introduce this yet) or Pediasure....these will all add calories and fat. Continue to offer vegetabless and fruits!!

I give my boy oatmeal with cut up raisins every morning along with yo baby yogurt and fruit. He gobbles it up. If you are cleared for eggs, you can make cheese omelette for him as well. Don't stress out too much. He'll be fine. Just offer him a variety of foods. At first, I would give my boy 3 different foods at a meal. Then, at about 9-10 months, he was eating 3 meals a day and sometimes a snack in between and I would offer 6-10 different things. He would choose what he liked to eat and eat more of that. My boy eats lots of fruit - it's his favorite. So I introduce the vegetables, meat, cheese and grains and then serve fruit for dessert. Sometimes he doesn't eat much at all until fruit course. I offer 2-3 different fruits - peach, cut up grapes, cut up strawberries, kiwi, pluots, steamed apples or applesauce, soft pears... Good luck!

do you also feed him eggs, yogurt,soft meats,etc..pastas. my niece came to visit i made mashed potatos and chicken i cut the chicken really small.she ate that she also had meatloaf, broccoli, carrots cooked soft,hard boiled eggs,. if she seemed to have a problem with the texture of if i wasn't sure i mixed the meat in with the potato and she ate it. i gave her popcorn but took the time to only feed her the soft part.

try pediasure. it has 240 calories per bottle and kids love it. not exactly finger food but it will help get more calories into his diet and it has alot of the vitamins he needs
