She just asked about a good birth control method and abstinence is the BEST birth control method. Not everyone on this board is married though.... I've been single since the day my third child was born almost 4 years ago and abstinence is working great. That's not being condescending.... that's being honest. ;)

If you're a mom, and married dont you think abstinence isnt happening people? Be serious and helpful ladies, not condescending!!!

I have an IUD and so far I love it. I also used to take the pill but I was bad at remembering. I tried the nuva ring for a while and I did like it. But it would fall out during sex, which is fine, you can even take it out before sex and leave it out up to 4 hours so its no big deal. Good luck on finding something that works for you.

About a year ago I would have bragged to you about the Mirena IUD, but now I caution everyone against it.Although I had almost five years of bliss without a period, I also ended up having to have my ovaries removed because the hormones cause extremely large cysts. I know that everyones body is different, but if you decide to try it, please make sure you have yearly test done to check for problems and that if you feel any tenderness in you abdoman to have it checked out. Mirena, if your like me i am bad at remembering to take the pill, the patch really made me hormonal along with other forms...but with the Mirena its a great way and worry free birth control. Yes it may be expensive but if you add up what your paying for birth control now and times that over the next 5 years, your paying alot more than you would pay for the Mirena which is good up to 5 years!!! and as mentioned below some people love it some people don't...but i personally heard nothing but good :)

No method is 100% except abstinence (not having sex). That being said one of the safest, easiest, cheapest, and most effective ways to prevent pregnancy and STDs is condoms.

I'm another fan of Mirena. I wasn't the first time around but this is my second time using it and I've had it for a year and a half. I love it! Very light periods with minimal PMS symptoms, no having to remember to take a pill and I don't have to think about birth control for up to 5 years.



Some women do have problems with it, so of course it's not for everybody. Another thing to take into consideration is if you're nursing it may dry up your supply. I didn't know this and had supply issues with my daughter. It also takes approximately 6 months for your body to adjust to it. This may mean irregular or heavy periods, moodiness, cramping. But after 3-6 months you don't even notice it.
