Possible to get pregnant 4 months after birth?

[deleted account] ( 14 moms have responded )

Hello,
I had my son 4 months ago. I exclusively breastfeed on demand, although he has recently started sleeping most of the night. Me and my husband had unprotected sex last week as well as last night. We have always used the pull out method and the last times were no exception. I'm pretty sure he knows what he was doing, both of my pregnancies were planned. We were together 2 years before my daughter and another 4 years when we had my son. Anyways, last week, about 2 days before we had sex, I noted a lot of clear "egg-whitey" discharge when I used the bathroom, exactly like the type I would look for when trying to get pregnant. Now I have spotted a little and am having period like cramps. Could I be pregnant or am I just being paranoid?

Agreed with other posters- You are more fertile right after being pregnant. Exclusively breastfeeding and pulling out are not effective means of birth control. Any penetration without proper precautions can lead to pregnancy. There is semen present before the big finish. There are pills safe to use while breastfeeding, or use condoms, if you aren't planning another child.

Full time breast feeding can mess with your cycle too. I went more than a year before starting my monthly again, and when I did it was all out of whack for a bit. Could just be coming on again?

Actually after a pregnancy you are even more fertile!
I would recommend getting on birth control if you aren't really trying to have a baby at this point in time IF you aren't already pregnant.
The "pull out method" isn't the best method in a normal situation but now when the risk is even higher... I wouldn't risk it at all!

Did you know you're more fertile in the following months after giving birth? My first child was born by c section, my second was born 13 months later, and my 3rd child was born 12 months later still.

You could be pregnant as i exclusively breast feed my second child, and me and my partner slept together 3 months after having my son and then 2 months later i found out i was pregnant again. so my middle son and youngest son have 12 months between them.

The best thing to do is to maybe take a pregnancy test its the only way to know for sure :)

It's always best to wait a year to give your body time to make a full recovery. Your uterus can drop & can actually prevent you from having kids in the future

I dont quite understand..you want to get pregnant but you use the pullout method?

Thanks for the responses. I didn't word my question the best, I actually would love to be pregnant again. I am in no way counting on either method to avoid getting pregnant.
Since i planning on having one more baby and soon, I did a lot of reading on how nursing affected fertility. There is just so much out there about how it can be 98% effective if certain criteria were met (which I do). I also saw articles about research that says if done properly, the "pullout" method is only 1% less effective than condoms. I know it is physically possible to get pregnant so soon and have known people who have, but they were not nursing. I am hoping to hear from someone who has gotten pregnant in my exact circumstances.

My Friend had a girl in january and her second a boy the next year beginning febuary. Yes you can get pregnant.Use condoms if you dont want to get pregnant or birthcontrol. The pull out method isnt good because sperm comes out befor the man ejaculates and its enough to get pregnant.

You could def be pregnant. It's an old wives take that breastfeeding prevents pregnancy. It absolutely does not. The pull and pray method is also ineffective. You're using two non-forms of birth control. You can certainly be pregnant or get pregnant.
