Our twins are 23 months...neither of them have shown any signs that they are ready to train. However, my MIL is TELLING me that there is no reason they are not trained and to sit them on their potties. This, from all I have read and been told, is just training me to sit them on their potties. It doesn't train them to do so themselves. HELP!!!

There is no reason why you can't introduce them to the potty. They won't know what it's for unless you show them. Put them on the potty and see how things go. If they're not ready, they're not ready.

I would introduce them but dont force them it can make training worse.

There's no point in pushing them but some encouragement such as getting them sit ont he potty isn't going to hurt. You can buy some great books about potty training and getting there favourite teddy sit on the potty is a good trick.

Lori, Don't let anyone force your little ones to train prior to them being ready it will create more problems for you. Both of my kids did it when they were ready. My son peed on the potty for a few months but wouldn't poop, if he get sick he would regress. He finally decided the potty wasnt that bad or scary and now goes all the time. If they are interested go for it. If not don't sweat it. Give them time they will figure it out.

There's no reason why you can't introduce them to the potty now, but if they aren't showing signs of readiness, then they simply aren't ready. We bought our daughter a potty chair when she turned 2 and sat it in the living room and would turn on her Elmo potty dvd, and she enjoyed learning about it, and even went pee a couple times, but it wasn't until she was 2 1/2 that she started showing interest (wanting her diaper changed as soon as she wet it, finding a private place to poop in, wanting to watch us use the potty, and then finally asking to use the potty). So by all means introduce it to them, but forcing them to sit on the potties might turn them off to potty training and take them longer to come back around, even after they are ready.

My son is 13 months and is almost potty trained when it comes to peeing (He still does not poop regularly so we are still working on that.). We do a method called Elimination Communication and it works WONDERS.

Training children to get use to the potty is a good thing...especially if they seem scared of it. But training should be fun and never be a battle or discipline.

i agree with you.. if they're not really ready, it's just going to be a battle.
