If you have potty trained kids, when did you start training them, and how long did it take?

Look up 'Diaper Free! The Gentle Wisdom of Natural Infant Hygiene', by Ingrid Bauer. It really works wonders. It is available on Amazon, there are videos on YouTube about Elimination Communication as well.

Quoting Jenny:

Trying potty training now on your 17 month old is fine just so expect it to automatically stick. She will do it on her own time. One day it will just click with her. I most definately agree with Melody about getting excited. Everytime my daughter pottied we acted like a bunch of nuts. We cheered and gave high fives. The excitement makes them want to do it more. My dauther was fully potty trained a little after her 2nd birthday. My son is 2yrs and 3 months and totally not interested. so good luck

For your son, if you live in a place that you have a private back yard or in the country. Try having your husband show your son how to pee on a bush, grass, ants, bugs or anything outside. I was having a hard time with my son and we showed him how to pee on a bush and that was fun for him. Eventually your son will have to go to a real rest room but at that point make it a game. Put cereal (cheerios) in the toilet and have him shot at the cereal.

I have 4 kids and 2 are potty trained. We started around 2. You should know some kids catch on fast and others it takes a while. Just be very positive about it with your child and try not to compare them to other kids. It can be a very easy journey or very frustrating. Just remember every kid is different and have fun!

I started just before my daughter's 2nd birthday. I used the 3 day potty training program, and she was trained in 3 days! It works!! Although, it took a good month or so for her to be completely accident free!

With my son, he was 2.5 when we started, and it took forever... Now that we know about the 3 day program the next bub will be put through the same program. They say kids can be trained at 18 months!

My daughter turned 2 in January, and she was potty trained before her Birthday. I just took her every time I went and asked her if she wanted to go potty too. When she went we got so excited for her and made a hugh deal about it, get super excited for them. Tell them that she is such a big girl. If they don't tell you they need to go take them every hour and watch for signs that she needs to go. It didn't take us that long to get her to where she told us when she needed to go. We skipped pull-ups and went strait to panties and kept telling her how cool it was that she was wearing big girl panties. She loved it. But remember that they all learn at a diferent pace, so just be patient and very presistant. The more consistant you are the quicker they catch on.

Also it will take a while until they quite having accidents, so again, be patient. Now that my daughter has been potty trainned for about 7 months she has now found out that she can hold it, but hasn't figured out for how long. So occasionally she still has accidents when she is destracted. We still have to watch for the t-t dance. Good luck, happy potty training.

A good sign is when they become interested in the toilet, what happens in it, watching when people are going. when they are in nappies if they come and see you when they are wet or soiled it shows they are recognising when they are going or need to go, there is no point in starting before they can recognise this. My advice is to avoid pull ups' it just delays it all happening, it may be messier in undies but it happens quicker as most kids dont like the feeling of wet pants.

Yeah, I have a potty and I set her on it all the time, she goes occasionally, but she doesn't go over to it herself when she needs to go. I just let her run around naked and if I think it looks like she needs to go I set her on it! So I am just hoping she will figure it out soon, she's almost 17 months, so I know that is pretty early, so I am being patient! Diapers are just getting to expensive, lame excuse, I know.

When you are ready get a potty for your child & sit it in the bathroom. Just let him sit on it with you & read a book before bath time. A sticker chart works for some kids.

I just started with my 2 year old. She tells me everytime, just sometimes its after the fact. :( She just turned 2 years old last month. My 7 yr old was just over 2 yrs when she started. She didn't take any time at all. She basically went from diapers to panties. I"m hoping it'll be that easy this time around. We'll see. I know my neice took about 2-3 years to get out of diapers completely, she just didn't care if she was in diapers or not.
