Hi my son is now 9months old, i was in labor for 17hrs and only progressed to 7 1/2 cm, i had to have a emergancy section as he got into disress and had to get out there and then, on my papers it has said the reason was failure to progress.

My question is mainly i want to have another baby next year and me and my husband have agreed to start TTC next Feb/March, Alfee will be around 1 and 5months - 1 and 6months, and when had the baby he will be 2 and 3months 2 and 4 months, is this enough time to ensure my scar is healed enough for me to have a VBAC?

Has anyone had a section through not progressing and gone on to have a VBAC after? Pleas tell ur stories good or bad, my doctor said he would rather i went for a planned section as the odds aren't good!

Thank you, i had alot of surport around me like my husband and my mum, so not to sure if it was my mental state but thank you for the links i will have alook on them!
I would do whatever is needed as well i won't put myself or child at risk just because i want a natural birth, But i'm happy that your mom went on to have a VBAC so there is hope for us all! The doctor is just worried because i failed to progress with my first child he doesn't think there is much chance of me progressing with a second.. I would love to have a big-ish family maybe 4 children but i was told that you can only have 3 sections, so am praying i will be okay to have a VBAC thank you for your help xx

I've had two normal births and two C sections (due to complications with my last vaginal birth) and after the first c section there is always a possibility of your (inner) scar tearing and heamoraging. But in saying this my mother has had a c section and then gone on to having a successful VBAC with my little brother so I believe each person is different. I know for me that I miscarried my fourth so when I fell pregnant again I was willing to do whatever it took to have our beautiful baby girl. I suggest that if you are in doubt make time with your local womens health clinic or if you feel comfortable enough talk to your doctor and they can give you some facts and most likely put you at ease. :D good luck

A friend is wanting to try for vbac, we were looking for research. here some of what we found.

When reading up during pregnancy for my little girl, one book suggested that the mum's mental state can significantly impact a labour and lead to failure to progress. It gave two examples, one of a woman who needed to trust others and be supported (both physically and mentally) and another woman who needed to find her inner strength and labour independently.
I'm not sure if that would be any help for your situation?

I'm in that situation now, my midwife said she has in the 12 years of being a midwife she has only know ONE C-sec scar to open up.
I would love to try natural. In my first pregancy at my 40 week check Sue thought Freddie had turned to be breech so she sent us to the hospital for a scan. however the midwife at the hospital did a stretch and sweep (didnt read my notes) instead setting of my labour. I was in labour 28hours and didnt progress any further than 4cm - at a change of staff the doctor came in took one look at me and Freddies heartbeat reading and then all hell brok loose- he sarted screaming WHY WASNT THIS BABY DELIVERED 5 HOURS AGO!!! Next thing i knew i was having an epidural and whisked into thertre for an Emergency section.

I was speaking to my consultant on tuesday and she was asking me about my first pregnacy and delivery (they've lost all my notes for first preg, surprise surprise) so she is ummming and ahhhing about a natural birth.

It would be so much easier to have a natural birth this time round because if you have a 19 month old (2year 3months once new baby is here) you cant exactly rest and heal. x

Don't be forced to having a planned section if that not what you want. Time wise should be fine. I have ended up with a section for all 3 of my children. My first i was induced and they tried everything and it just didn't happen. I went for a vbac with my 2nd went 2 weeks over had my waters broke and still no labour. 3rd child was planned section cause of to big a risk. The fact that you were in labour and got as far as you did is positive. Every child different. So if you truly want a vbac go for it. Hospital can't force you do do what you don't want. They like to tell you to have a planned section so it easier for them. Trust me. If it don't work out worst that can happen is another section but at least you know you tried.
