Pregnant after depo shot?

I was told by my doctor that it could take me up to 2 years to conceive a baby after I quit getting Depo shots. And, it did take me 2 years to get pregnant. I was on the shot for only about 18 months. Knowing what I know now and experiencing this, I have decided that I would not do Depo again unless I was done having babies. Hopefully this helps you.

I only had one depo shot I missed my appointment but since then me an my partner have had unprotected sex I haven't got my period yet is there a chance I can b pregnant

I've been off the depo shot for two months now and had unprotected sex with my boyfriend last weekend. He did not ejaculate inside me, but it makes me worried since I've been off the shot. I was just wondering what the symptoms were of becoming pregnant right off the depo shot. I'm an athlete so I face many issues such as back pain and shortness of breath due to a lot of running and have had a back problem since high-school.

okay..i need some help..i recieved my depo shot on february 3rd, 2012.. it is now september 2nd 2012..my doctor said that the shot should well be out of my system..i only had ONE shot of it..thats it..only 3 months..i am currently trying to get pregnant but no luck..idk whats wrong?? can someone please help!!!

i had no problem with getting pregnant after being on the depo shot for nearly 7 years my children are 8 years apart so it did not take very long lol i was suppose to get my shot in the beginning of june and was pregnant at the end of august. but i agree with what several people have said it depends on the person and how fertile they and their mate are

I was on depo for 2 years before I had my son. I was only off depo for 6months when I got prego with him. It all depends on the person and how long it takes to get completely out of ur system. drinking lots of fluids help flush the system out.

I was on the Depo for 2yrs and I would not recommend it. I had mood swings, was depressed, back pains, headaches, fatigue. Then (at near the end of the second year) I was diagnosed with hypothyroidism.

In my opinion, it's different for every woman. For example, my step sister got pregnant a few months after going off of it. She has been off and on it for years and has 3 children. She has never had a negative effect from it (That we are aware of). I was too young when I was on it to know if it would have had a lasting fertile affect. Though, Depo really messed up my hormones. After going off of it, I developed a benign inflammatory dermatosis. Which is Granuloma Annulare, my dermatologist believes it is from the depo shot. She believes that it affected my thyroid glan which screwed up my hormones. But, YES, I did get pregnant after going on/ off of it, but, it was 6 years!!

Hi Tori. That is not true. I was on the depo for 2 years. Then left it, went straight onto Trifaisel, the pil, for 3 months. I fell pregnant exactly 9 months after leaving the depo. I have been told by a doctor that it takes 9 months for the hormones in your system to settle back to normal.

Hi tori my name is edith and i took the depo shot for 4 years and when i met my husband it took a year and a half after i stoped the shot before we were able to conceive so if it was hard to conveive in the beginning then i would not suggest it but ever woman's body act defferently i had a hard time with weight gain and that is one of the side effects and being a big girl aready it was much harder to lose weight and still is before i hadden had a problem but a couple of friends of mine got on the shot the same time i did and one lose her hair and another one had a tendency to have alot of unexpected bledding and was taken off of it but i didnt have any of that other than the weight it was great not having a cycle anymore was the best part about it so i hope this helps u some what

it took me 1.5 yrs to conceive after getting off of depo. i like the fact that the periods went away but the wait was unbearable

i had the depo shot before i fell with my son, i only had it once then didn't get a period for 13 months it then took another 6 months for them to return in a regular pattern so it took us 2 years to fall with my son i wouln't reccomend that you use it as a short term contraception because it is so unpredictable, although in saying that i have had friends that used and loved it and had no problems with it..

I talked to my doctor about the depo shot after I had my 2nd, he pretty much refused to give it to me because of what it does to you system, try and IUD instead its good for 5 years doesn't hurt your system at all, and it can be removed when ever you want to start trying to have another...but if you had a hard time conceiving the first time I HIGHLY recommend getting off the shots...good luck!

everyone is different
but i had it and bleeded the whole three months then thay suggested i have another as the first one can cause that stupid me said ok so i had it for 6 months blead the whole time put on so much weight from the hormone inbalance that i was 20 kilos overweight which i am finding it impossible to lose it caused polycystic ovaries and my doc said i couldnt have no more kids
well after two and a half years i beat the odds i went crazy on a treadmill for a month i only lost 2 kg but it must of shocked my body cause i fell pregnant
i now have a 5 month old daughter
i have heard a lot of horror stories just like mine but see how u go everyone is different and if no problems accure it might be fine for you
it is suppose to be like a minni pill a weaker form

I've been on it before, If your period stops, Whenever you stop the shot that's how long it takes to get out of your system.....example if your on it 2 years....it takes 1 1/2 years to get pregnant. I took it after all the birth of my chrildren and have 4 children of my own 12, 11, 8 and 2 months old. Good Luck.

I got pregnant while on the Depo shot. But my doctor told me it could have been a bad one or my body has to high of a metabolism for it to work. Go on the Nuvaring. Its so much easier and i hear it only takes a month at most after you get off of it to get preggers.

I have the mirena, i have had it in for 1 year and 2 months it has been great and you can't even feel that it is there and it only takes 5 to 10 min. at the dr. office to get it. this would be your best bet if you want to get pregnant again soon well i hope this helped you

i have found that i can't use any form of birth control with hormones in it. we use condoms sometimes but usually a spermicide. its vcf. its a thin piece of film that dissolves after its been put inside. haven't got pregnant with it yet and we've used it before my 3rd baby and after her. its been several months in all. we both like that better than any hormonal. we buy ours at walmart..

I definitly wouldnt recommend depo at all..even though every womens body is different..i only had one injection and did not get another..i had a 10 lbs. weight gain in 1 month and a peroid for a month and a half straight then stop having them in oct. of 09 and never got one back.luckily i recently found out im 8 weeks pregnant but i would never use depo again.

May I suggest that none of you use the DEPO SHOT if you intend to become pregnant again. It wasn't around for me, but I know young women who have used it and have not been able to become pregnant. Drug companies are not in the business of HELPING you; they are in the business of making MONEY. Women have been getting periods since time began; it is NATURAL. Do not believe the commercials that ask WHO SAYS you have to HAVE a period. Nothing made easy to get will necessarily benefit you. (Just ask someone hooked on drugs.) Too many methods of birth control offered today are made to chemically alter your bodies. They NEVER discuss the long-term effects this stuff has on your body; but they tout how easy it is NOT to have a period every month. In this way, the drug companies appeal to the younger people by making it sound as if having a period is a bad thing. I know there are those of you out there who have thanked God to see a period after having unprotected sex. Therefore, what is so WRONG with having a period when our bodies were made to have periods in order to prepare us for having babies?
I implore you ladies to use another method of birth control. Discuss this with your doctors and READ ALL the literature you can on products that chemically keep you from having periods BEFORE you decide to use these products. The Depo Vera shot is NOT the only product on the market that will prevent you from getting pregnant and chemically altering your body in order to do so.
I hope and pray you will make the right decision and not depend on people you do not know and who do not know you to provide something for you that could change your life forever.

I was on the depo shot for about three or four years, it was great because you only had to have another every three months rather than taking pills every day and you don't get periods at all which was an added bonus.
Once I stopped it took approx. 6-8 months for my periods to return and I used the pill in the meantime - can't quite remember if I waited for my period to return before starting the pill though - after I stopped taking the pill it took me 8months to get pregnant and am now due in 4 weeks.
I think everyone is different and will have different stories that will change your mind over. Look at all methods before deciding what is best for you. :)

Don't do the depo shot. There are a lot of side effects and it can take almost two to three years before you can conceive again. I had migraines, constant utis, bladder infections, depression, welt like acne, weird infections in my private area, no sex drive, excess hair in disturbing places, fatigue, uncontrolable crying... I constantly had a headache and back ache, cysts on my ovaries, and had so much pain in my pelvic area I ended up in the ER several times. I felt hostile and had to go on antidepressaints. I also had a miscarriage, and needed to have a dnc for blood build up. Sometimes I would bleed and bleed, other times I wouldn't have a period for months. Pick another form of birth control. No offense, but usually after a new baby your fatigue and don't have the energy. Condoms? Please don't use this! I don't understand why this birth control as not been outlawed for all the horrible side effects it caused it's users. It is horrible! Please use something else! Also get a new health provider if he/she is pushing this horrible birth control... If you do, I hope you can afford a lot of doctor, ER, and kiss your fertility good bye for a very long time, along with your peace of mind...

Thanks everyone! Ive decided to get my next shot in may and after than 3 months I am going to go on the pill. I talked to my dr n he says it depends on the person, but in his experience it usually takes several months to a year to conceive. I dont want to take a chance because I didnt get pregnant until 3 years of unprotected sex with my husband and before that iwas just on the pill for 9 months. And i dont want my kids to be extremely far apart in age, I just dont want 2 who cant walk n talk good or 2 still in diapers! But thanks again everyone!

Everyone is different... I personally got pregnant after depo no problem.. also, I don't have periods on depo, but I have friends who bled non stop for 6 months (2 depo cycles)

i tried paraguard. its the non hormonal version of mirena. it was slipping out after having it for only 3 weeks so it was taken out at my recheck. i guess my uterus was too small even after 3 bigger babies. i've heard lots of good about the iuds and also lots of negative. i met one lady, her iud was up by her ribs and was pregnant, putting her two daughters about 15-18 months apart

The depo shot was the most horrible experience for me. I got one shot when I was 18 and gained 30lbs in like 6 months. Beside the weight gain I was moody and had hot flashes all the time. I do not recommend anyone getting that shot. I didn't get pregnant until I was 25 but I wasn't trying to. Now I have a mirena which is awesome and protects you for five years. Its inserted in your uterus and you never know its there.

I was on depo for 6 years straight and my doctor told me I had to go off it is I had been using it for too long. I was on no contraception at all after that and also had only a few rare periods too. It took four years for me to fall pregnant again.I had an Implanon implant which lasts for 3 years but I had it taken out after a year and thats when I fell pregnant, only two weeks after the implant was taken out. I believe the depo has affected my fertility as it took another 5 years before I became pregnant after my last baby. I do not recomend depo if you are planning more children or if you have trouble concieving. The Implanon implant you can have put in at your doctors surgery and have it taken out at any time over the three years and have a return of your regular fertility with in a week so my doctor said. i had only one shot and couldn't wait to for the 3 months to be up! once it was up i was pregnant right away but while on it i didn't want any type of affection from my husband. anything intimate caused bleeding which it never did before or after. just during the 3 months of the stupid shot.

I have 3 friends who got pregnant while on Depo. I am on it and seem to be having the opposite problem...instead of my period disappearing, I have yet to STOP bleeding. Its very light and my Doctor insists its nothing to be concerned about (yeah right) but it is really annoying! However I am putting up with it b/c if I go off the Depo, I have 9 to 10 day cycles that are so heavy I cannot leave home. Its been like that since I was a teenager and I am choosing the lesser of 2 evils.

IMO... stop the shot and do not get another one. I can only share my experience. I was on it for about 3.5 years. Went off it Oct 04 and went to bcp. Went totally off of bc May 05. My son was born March 08.... I also had 2 early miscarriages before my pregnancy w/ him which I totally blame Depo for.

I will start by saying besides all the calcium supplements you need to take..I LOVE DEPO!!!! I started getting the shots when I was 16 and stopped getting them when I was 18(July 2006 for timelines sake)I did not get pregnant until June of 2007 with my beautiful (now 2 year old) son.I had a wonderful pregnancy with no issues what-so-ever(I know some "sources" of information will say that the baby could have birth defects)So it took me JUST under a year to concieve,however when I am on depo I do not get periods at all and had the first one in may of 2008.Well my son was born March 30th 2008 and as SOON as my doctor ok'ed it I got right back on the shot.My husband and I decided to go off of it in december of '08 and I got pregnant in september of 2009 with, yes everyone....TWINS! All natural with absolutely no fertility meds or anything.I do not believe that it affects your fertility unless you are on it for a LONG amount of time.I hope that makes you feel a little more informed before you make the decision!!!

I was on the Depo injection before we decided to conceive out third child. My next shot was due in the February which I didn't have, as I was made aware that it can take some time to get out of your system, up to 12 months.We began trying for him in October of that year and I didn't fall pregnant. We decided not to try in November as we already had a an August Child. So we tried again on December and fell pregnant. Our September baby arrived safely. Just know that it is different for everyone. Speak to your Doctor if you have any concerns, and maybe use condoms instead. Then your attempts can be made whenever the mood feels right...Good luck, Regards Priscilla.

no way i was on depo b4 i fell preggie and it onLy took me a month my son is now 5 and have been on it since he was born but mostly the best part of having depo injections NO PERIODS.

The first time i went off depo i didnt get "the curse" for almost two years and i was on it for about a year. The second time i went off it i got " itevery week or two for about three months and i was only on it for six months.when it finally went back to normal i got pregnant right away..if you are planning on having another kid i recomend using the pill instead because you never know what the effects are going to be...

I was actually on the depo shot when I got pregnant...i know its like an one in a million shot but it happened. I was on the depo shot for 3 years before I got pregnant. It all depends on your body. instead of getting the depo shot there are many other ways to prevent pregnancy. like Mirena, I have herd some GREAT things about that. Or the Nuvaring. That way it wont mess with you getting pregnant agina as much as the depo shot would.

ive been off the depo for almost 2 months and were trying to get pregnant. nothing has happened yet, i didnt find out about the problems that can occur till after i got off of it. im praying that it doesnt happen to me but only god knows. if your gonna do the shot i would stay like kimberley to take breaks with it and maybe not to stay on it for more then a year, ive read some bad things about it messing peoples lady stuff up where they couldnt get pregnant again and never started having there cycle again. good luck :)

I think each persons fertility levels are going to be different, so you will have people saying here, that it took me years after I stopped getting the shots, where others will say, I got pregnant while taking the shots, and everything inbetween!

I have a brochure from when I had mine done saying only get 3 done (9 months worth) go on a break for a month before you start your next 3. I got pregnant before my period returned with my middle child taking depo.
