Hello ladies,

I recently discovered that I am pregnant, and am a little worried. I have had two previous miscarriages; the most recent back in June 2011.

We were able to conceive using Femara because I have been diagnosed with P.C.O.S.

My last pregnancy, and subsequent miscarriage, was a little hard, and confusing to wrap my mind around. We attended an ultrasound at the end of week 6, and there was a heart beat on the scan. When we went back two weeks later, there was no sign of life.

Since then I have been doing research on hormone therapy, and was curious about progesterone, and thought maybe my levels were the cause of my previous miscarriage. I called my doctor the day I took the test, and he is on vacation, and his client list is backed up about a month. At this point, I am very paranoid, and decided to go to a walk-in-clinic to start blood work, and inquire about progesterone.

After giving the doctor a brief history of my fertility gripes, he jotted down a prescription for progestins (200 mg) to be taken before bed.

I am now a little concerned that there was no blood work to comfirm my theory.

I am just wondering if anyone has taken progesterone therapy to sustain a pregnancy, if it worked, and what amount you were givin. I think 200mg is a standard amount, but I would appreciate other experiences on this drug. As well as success stories.

Thanks so much in advance.

I had 2 miscarriages and was put on prometrium 100mg/twice a day for the first 10 weeks of my 3rd pregnancy. They didn't do any blood work to test to see if I was low on progesterone or not. It worked out great, I have a healthy and beautiful 13 month old daughter. I then got pregnant 3 more times after having my daughter, I lost the first 2 (not taking prometrium) and then managed to get my doctor to give me another prescription for it so that when I got pregnant again I could start taking them immediately. I am currently 14 weeks pregnant and things have been going great. You just have to watch out because this pregnancy I've been having odd heart paliptations that my doctor think is linked to taking the prometrium. It has definitely slowed down since I stopped taking it 4 weeks ago, but I do occassionaly still get them. Good luck and congratulations!

I have a friend who had at least 6 (I think it was 8 though) miscarriages. With her last pregnancy she took progesterone and now has a healthy 2 year old daughter. Like Jane, I also do not know her dosage. Sorry.

A friend of mine had two children and then 5 miscarriages. She went on hormone therapy and was able to successfully carry her third child to term. I am sorry, but I don't know the amounts she took but from what I understand her doctor figured out that she wasn't producing enough hormones to maintain a pregnancy.
