I am due April 8th and on my "routine" appointment with my OB/GYN on march 2nd, I was told I was 2cm dilated and 90% offaced. I was sent straight to the hospital... They did a saunogram and told me my daughter was very low so they couldn't get accurate measurements of her, but I was told she is about 4-5 lbs and 3 weeks undersize. I had to stay overnight for observation and was given shots to slow my contrations and I was put on bedrest for the remainder of my pregnancy.. I am 5 ft tall and weighed 105 lbs before my pregnancy and have a 1 year old that was 6 lbs 81/2 oz when she was born (full term) I was wondering about other mothers experiences with preterm labor and how it turned out.

I have had 3 premature baby's and they are all fine.  My 3rd daughter, Amberleigh, was born at 34 weeks, weighing 5lb and came up to the ward with me, but then she had to go to SCBU because she couldnt maintain her temperature.  My next baby was a little boy, called Alex, I was induced with him at 33 weeks because he was distressed, he was a little more poorly but he only had to spend 2 weeks on SCBU, again for his temperature and feeding, he also weighed 4lb 12oz dispite how early he was.  Then I had a little girl, Caitlyn, who was born at 37 weeks and again was fine and didnt have to go SCBU and came straight home with me.  Everything will be fine, try not to worry xxx

They have come so far along with premature babies. From what you have mentioned you are about 3 and a half weeks away from birth which is good news. If your baby should be born now I would have to say you would have little worries. My son was born at 28 weeks ( 3 months premature) And Thank God that he is a normal 3 year old little boy. I was on bed rest at 18 weeks because my cervix started to open and the sewed me closed and I did the best that I could on bed rest untill at 27 weeks things started to change they gave me a shot of steroids to develop the lungs more and on my 28 week he had enough and wanted to some out. The doctors gave me one more shot of steroids the moment I got to the hospital said that it would be safer for him outside then in. If you have any questions I would be glad to answer. But I always say God has his reason for everything and for my son I think it was to teach us that the good things in life are worth fighting for. Best of Luck !! Try not to worry..

I was only 34 weeks and 6 days pregnant when my son was born. He was 5 lbs. 3 oz at birth. I was scared and concerned when my water broke so early but it all turned out for
the best. As long as the doctors are monitoring both your baby and you I would say you are in good hands. I will pray that all goes well for you.

Zack was 21 days early and his lungs were not fully developed.  He was in ICU for 4 days,  It was horrible.  He is now 18, in college, healthy, active, hairy, and has a beautiful girlfriend. I had a 2 year old at home.

When I started early contractions with Annie (4th baby} they put me to bed,and gave me steroid shots to help her lungs. I learned that many people are willing to help out with what ever you may need.  They just are waiting to be told what they can do. Annie stayed put until her due date and had no problems at all.

I have a friend who's baby is now home.  She was born at 25 weeks and had many problems. (mom was 23 weeks along when she found out she was pregnant) Try to relax and remember that soon you will have a wonderful new little one.

I went on bedrest at 32 weeks with my first baby. Not sure what prompted the visit to the Dr other than I just didn't feel "right". I was 1 cm and fully effaced with contractions. They did a test at the OB Triage and sent me home - at 6AM they called me back to the hospital for the steroid shots and to get the meds to stop the contractions. Nothing but HGTV and fritos after that! haha I went to 38.5 weeks, perfectly healthy, 19" 6#1oz. I was allowed to go into the pool when I was on bedrest because the water lifts the baby off the cervix. I'm not sure if that is possible for you, but ask your Dr. It will be just fine :-) My 2nd baby I had bleeding problems and some intermittant bedrest but she is perfectly fine also! I hope this eases your mind a little!

I was hospitalized with my daughter twice with preterm labor. The first time was in November (three months before she was due!). They gave me a shot and two pills to stop the labor. The second time was in December. For some reason I was never put on bed rest though. I was scheduled to be induced on a Monday, so the Thursday before they sent me to the hospital to do some pre-induction observations. They informed me that I was already 3cm dialated and 70% effaced. They STILL sent me home, even though my first born was an EXTREMELY fast progressing labor (3 hours start to finish!) I was so afraid that I would have my daughter on the side of the road on the way to hospital because I live 40 minutes away. Anyway, to make a long story a little shorter.....she ended up coming 10 days later than the due date at almost 9 lbs! All you can do is take care of yourself and seek comfort in knowing smaller babies have been born healthy!

I had a preterm labor scare with my baby. I was 26 weeks along...it was terrifying. They gave me one kind of drug that didnt help, then they gave me a smooth muscle relaxer-im sorry I cant remember the names of the drugs-It helped stop the contractions. They also gave me a shot of steriods to help the babys lungs in case she was born. I was there over night and through most of the next day. I was put on bed rest as well, the doctor gave me pills to take to help keep the contractions at bay. It was hard and  I was so scared but it turned out just fine my baby girl was born one week before her due date and is healthy and happy. With the technology and medicines any more, even if your baby is born too early to go home with you, the baby will be fine. Its so scary but just put yourself at ease-its all gonna turn out fine. The worst part for me (other than the worry) was the bed rest. Laying down all day really got me down. And you have another child! That must be almost impossible to be able to keep to the bed rest. Well Im not sure what else to say about my preterm labor feel free to ask questions. Im sure your baby is going to be just fine. Good luck!
