I have decided to process my son's own meat rather than buy it premade. I bought the food processor today, so next comes finding some simple recipes for making his food. I want to use chicken, red meat, and probably pork. Riley is about 7 1/2 months old and he has been meat free thus far but the doctor told us today that it is time to start Phase 2 fruits and veggies and meat. Any tips or simple recipe's that anyone could give me would be so helpful. Thank-you!

I made all of my son's baby food my self too in our food processor. He asks for the good stuff and eats really healthy now too. It was fun and it was good to know exactly what was going into his body

I made all of my 4th son's baby food and loved it. I would make grilled chiken and steamed veggies and process it together with a little bit of water or breast milk to start then slowly add different kinds of meats. Later I would make the same meal we were having minus the salt and process it seperately for the baby. My children are all very healthy, hearty eaters! Good luck :)

After you have processed your meal you can freeze portions in ice cube trays also. I used to make up small stews with heaps of veges also and freeze in portions so it is ready to go.

At his age, leave out the herbs and spices. Even salt and pepper. Just plain (yes bland and boring) foods. Cook them well, steam the veggies until soft, then puree away! It's really easy.

Once he gets used to eating that and you start him on table food, let him try everything you eat. As long as it's not too spicy! Remember, he'll still be in diapers, and if you're like me and like SPICY... Not good for the burning butts in a diaper.... But do encourage him to try everything. I did with my kids and they'll eat almost anything now, and will at least give anything a try.

Have fun!

You can start with just poached meats - no recipe needed! Poach chicken breast and blend with some of the cooking water (enough that it reaches your desired consistency). Make your own baby beef stew with... beef, whatever veggies you have and your baby likes, and water! Babies don't need a lot of extra flavours like salt and pepper to start with, but as he gets a little older you can start adding things like onion, pepper, and spices.
