When my son was born we thought he was just a lazy eater because he wasn't interested in eating much. When we got him home he started throwing up. It would come out of his nose and mouth when he threw up. We were taking him to doctor every week! The doctor took him to get an ultrasound of his stomach to verify if he had pyloric stenosis but it wasn't showing up yet. So the doctor just took him off of my breast milk and put him on formula. When his vomiting increased and his weight dropped into the 12 percentile, the doctor said to put rice in his formula. Then when he was 4 weeks old, one night EVERYTHING he ate came back up and he dry heaved for 3 hours. So when the clinic opened on a Saturday morning we were the first patients. A different doctor was on duty that morning and she took one look at my son and admitted us into the hospital because he was deeply dehydrated and lethargic. In the hospital they did another ultrasound of his stomach and found out he did have Pyloric Stenosis. He went into surgery that day but the surgeon cut too far and nicked his stomach. He had to wait for 48 hours before he could eat again because they had to see if had healed. After 48 hours they still found a leak so we had to wait another 48 hours. After that they did another test on him but they couldn't tell if it was still leaking so they decided to transfer us to a children's hospital. At the children's hospital they started feeding him immediately and he did wonderfully!! We spent a total of 8 days in the hospitals. When he was released he was 5 weeks old and he still wasn't at his birth weight. Now he is 8 weeks old and gaining almost a pound a week!! So here is my question..Has anyone's child been diagnosed with this condition? Please tell me your story. Did you child have any later development challenges? Any later complications?
