Hi all Moms!! I had a quick question for all you moms out there. My DS is 7 months complete, 1 week into his 8th month and we have started giving him fruit juices. Usually it is about 3-4 spoonfulls of fresh fruit juices, like apple or orange. But, once in a while is it okay if I give him diluted Tropicana fruit juices? I read on the carton that there were some additives like the "stabilizer" and do not know how that affects the baby. I know that fresh fruit juices are always going to be good, but has anybody ever given Tropicana juices to a 7 month old ?

I can't answer that question, but I can let you know giving the baby fruit juce could cause tooth decay. My daughter is now four and has had dental surgery twice to fix her teeth form having too much sugars from things like fruit juice.

Your wee one really doesn't need any juice at all. It's difficult to digest, can give them diaper rash and it's more sugar than they need.

I'd stick with just fresh fruit for now, in small amounts.

All I can say is to really watch the juices. We let my three-year-old have too much juice when he was a baby & he got a cavity on his top front tooth by the time he was a year old. That particular filling has been a nightmare to keep in! We've had it refilled at least 4 times!! If I could do it all over again, I would never have allowed him to have any juice at all--even diluted--because he started preferring it over milk. I think you're probably okay giving your baby small spoonfuls of juice & the Tropicana stuff should be okay. Just don't make the same mistake I did by letting him drink it from a bottle/sippy cup!

I gave my kids juice at about 6 months but i diluted it with water unless it was infant juice. I didn't give any prange juice until after the first birthday because it was just too acidic. It upset their stomach, broke out their skin and made them very very gassy.

Tropicana would have too much acid. Stick to 100% fruit juices watered down 1/2 and 1/2.

HI I was told not to give my child juice.  It is hard on there teeth (sugar, and acid), but instead to give them real fruit.  I stuck to juice when my children were sick or constipated.

My son's have had practically every type of juice (flavour wise), and I diluted it for the first while as well, I did however wait a bit longer on the orange juice because of the acidity.. with all the other moms saying that there dr's said to not give juice at all, I've never heard that before.  When my first born was running a fever at 6 months every doctor I talked to suggested cold cold juice..worked like a charm after he quit making faces because it was cold and he was use to nice warm milk.. :) I'd say give your children what you think is best..  I don't listen to other moms suggestions very much when they say it is bad or so on, because I know my child best, if I see that something doesn't seem right, then I will stop..I just think that these days dr's are trying to scare the living bejeezers out of new moms, and me having plently of friends just having babies calling me all worried about what a dr said knows the truth behind it.  :)

I was always told what you are reading...100% juice watered down to 1/2 and 1/2 is the same thing as the gerber juices...but orange juice is too acidic...you and baby will pay later...stick with juices you can see through :) wait till your baby is old enough to eat the real orange :)

Hi - I really wouldn't go that route....all that sugar isn't the best, and there's not enough nutrients to offset it.

Just my opinion, but it's best to stick with milk or water, maybe baby juices, but kids will get hooked on sweet juice really easily.

Not good for their developing teeth either!

Hi, I was told by my ped that I should not have given my son any juice until he's one years old and even then to dilute it to half juice/half water. Even if you are giving your child pure fruit juice you should be diluting it because fruits are high in sugar. Hope this helps!

Hi.....my son is almost 3 and I never gave him any other juice but Gerber and Welch's.  I diluted the Welch's juice with some water, but as a personal choice, I never gave him anything but 100% pure juice.  Ask your doctor, but some kids may have problems with the additives in other juices.

I know that you're aloud to give babies juice as long as it's diluted but I thought I heard orange juice shouldn't be given until your baby is at least 1 because of the acidity. I'd check with your doctor. You also need to be careful that the pulp doesn't clog the sippy cup. When in doubt call the doctor, that's what they're there for.

hi..i tend not to go down the Tropicana raod..personal prefrence...i think its to much acid, even if u dilute it. Babies will break out with diaper rash.or even worse. although i am curious to know what other moms think. good luck Julie

I think what the concern might be is the sugar content of these juices. Less is always better..but check with your nurse or dr. Good luck
