Rash on face that looks like acne/hives?

[deleted account] ( 8 moms have responded )

My two month old has really dry skin all of a sudden and a rash on her face that kind of looks like acne, but will have hives that appear and disappear. I am not sure what it is, but I have seen people talk about yeast and excema. Does anyone know what it is? Could it be acne? Sometimes it looks like flea bites, but we do not have fleas. I am not sure what it is, but it looks awful, and her skin is so dry when she scratches her skin it cuts it and bleeds.

I did wash her face with her bath soap. Allergic reaction or someting else?

My little girl starting getting the same thing at about 2 months. I finally decided it was just really dry skin (like daddy). It lasted until she was about 10 months old. It comes back when the house is really dry. Humidifier should help along with a lotion.

Not sure what it actually looks like, but when my daughter was that age she started breaking out like that and it was awful.. What it turned out to be was she was allergic to the laundry detergent. So you could try switching that and see what happens. I would also try to stay away from soap and see if it clears up. Good luck.

My daughter(11mo now) STILL gets those bizarre little hives/rash whatever it is. I can't pinpoint it. I think she just has really sensitive skin. My older one had the same issue. Try using Cetaphil. Use a cotton ball to apply it and another one to wipe the excess. I used that with my first 3x's a day. It is very gentle. Good Luck!!

BTW have you asked her Ped?

The little white bumps are hives, if they aren't bites. My nephew has this, and we found out that he is sensitive to all fragrances. Check your laundry soap, your lotion, perfume and also check if your carpets maybe have been cleaned in the past with harmful chemicals. Even if I would put on lotion in the morning and hold him at night, he would break out.
He does have eczema, which makes it all worse. I would just see a doctor, and they can do an allergy test and see what is making it happen.
One more thing, check the formula she eats. If you breast feed, ask your doctor if she could already have a food allergy or a reaction to the food you eat and if it affects your breast milk. Hope this helps, and hope she gets better fast!

It does sound like she has infant acne, my sons had that at that age too and Im not sure you can do much about it.

Hey girl! My son has the same little red bumps on his cheeks! I have also heard people talk about yeast infections, etc. But I'm going to call his doc to be on the safe side in case he needs a special cream or something to treat it. Good Luck! :0)

Thank you SO much!! It just started, but looks HORRIBLE! They are absolutly not bites, but sometimes look like it. They will come and go, but her skin is becoming like sand paper! I will try these things. I am not breastfeeding and she is on gentle formula. I feel like out of nowhere I have all of these concerns. I guess worrying is being mom? Sigh...

Sounds like infant acne which is very common with newborn babies. I would stay clear of bath soap and use a mild moisturizer like aveeno. It does go away with time, if you’re worried talk to her pediatrician. Good luck!
