my daughter is a month old today! over a week ago, she started developing a few lil red bumps around her nose and on her cheeks. we thought it probably was when she'd touch her face after putting her hands in her mouth. we've put rash oinment to calm it down but it doesn't seem to work. now it's spread all over her face and has even gone to her upper back. i'm not sure of it's some kind of alergy or she's breaking out in baby acne. i do live on a very hot and humid island and the heat has been a problem for my skin in the past, so i thought if it is acne than maybe the heat is also causing it to flame up.

Quoting Cherie:

Sounds like eczema to me, reacting to detergents in clothing, the foods you are eating-eg dairy, nuts etc. also could be the heat and humidity. keeping baby cool, watching your diet carefully or if bottle fed, look for formulas that are soy based. clothe in natural fabrics like cottons etc. And of course, moisturise often. Avoid lanolin based creams, olive oil is good!

I've heard about using olive oil to moisturize, but the down side to that is that it's fiarly expensive .  I use olive oil to cook with and at least where I live it runs about $10-$15 for 20 oz. The walmart version of the eucerine cream worked really well for us and it ran $4 a tub. we still have more than half of it now a year later.

I had the same problem when I was an infant. Turns out, I have Eczema. I would break out in the crib on my face from sweating. And during school, on the back of my legs from sitting in the desks all day. I would wear shorts because in South Florida it gets so hot.
There is a steroid cream called Elocon which would clear up any breakouts within a couple of days.

I still have eczema, it isnt curable. Someother things that work are cortizone cream, although it isnt as strong as the elocon, and also Aquaphor baby ointment, not lotion will help protect the skin.

Everyone can have different reactions to things such as laundry detergent, bubble baths ( i cant use any =( ), hand and body soap ( I can only use Dove, regular) and contact with water. I have to limit my contact with water to strictly bathing for 5 minutes, briskly washing my hands and wearing gloves while cleaning anything, and sometimes bathing my son.

Good luck! Hope this helps!

Hi, I would say allergy to laundry detergent or heat rash. These are the most common. I used dreft detergent for my daughters clothes and washed her things seperately from everything else. Also I kept her really bundled up a lot and she did get heat blaches. The Dr. told me to not bundle her up so much and I used Eucerin cream on her and it cleared right up! Good luck , hope this information helps! Bobbi

One other thing to look foris if it seems to be a "dry" rash. If the skins seems dry and kinda flaky it could be a form of eczema. All of my boys had it when they were infants. For some reason TIDE detergent made it worse. But I was told by a doctor to get some of the eucerine cream lotion in the plastic jar (not the bottle) and put that on 2-3 times a day. Otherwise it sounds like a cross between heat rash and baby acne like the other moms said. Best of luck.

it could be a number of things it could be heat rash, baby acne, or a allergy to your clothing. when they are new borns everything could cause a skin irratation. try to keep her cool. if it persists ask your dr.

My daughter, now 9yo, had that when she was around a month old.
At first the doctor thought it was just a rash from the hormones but it slowly got much worse. It turned to be dermatitis. They gave me a perscription cream and it cleared up within a couple of days.
Good luck.

Heat rash, do they have little white bumps?

it sounds like if its small little red bumps then its most likely a mix of baby acne and heat rash combinging, baby powder works great even tho its annoying on cheeks and such but it absorbs the water away from her skin and the rash cant last without moisture... my daughter had a similar rash when she was an infant born in the summer, thier little bodies just dont know what to do especially that little, they are so used to being in a controlled temperature belly... good luck!!!

The doctors told me it was baby acne and nothing would make it better, they get it because of all your hormones leaving their body, i have a two month old and she still has it its worse some days then others but its starting to go away now
