am going back to work in May and will be working nights. I will need a babysitter to watch my son for approx 3 hrs for 5 days. What should we pay? What's the going rate?

My suggestion would be similar to Shelley's. Get prices from various places - licenced daycare, nursery schools, home daycares, even gym daycares, hourly rate at the local Y, etc. And work out the average hourly rate then depending on what you mean by "nights" you may want to add a few dollars to accomodate seeing as how it doesn't fall into the normal 7:30am to 6:00pm time slot. Good Luck!

I do babysitting, do provide a very nice clean home all food and drinks only ask for diaper or formula if needed. My rates go from 2.50 ph to 5ph just depends on family and child. I prefer hourly so parents do not take advantage of me nor do they overpay. I stay home anyways with my kids and have a few so working is not an option for me I figure if I babysit it gives me so extra money that I didn't have before so this is why I don't charge alot. It is good quality care for cheap affordable prices. You can find good care at good prices if it's a situation like mine, where my husband can support us. Me personally I pay my babysitter(s) $5ph to come to my house to babysit wheather its one or all of my children, honestly babysitting is not hard busy time consuming maybe, and if you are looking for babysitting and not preschool keep that in mind that is what you are paying for . Daycare rates may also include some school and more structured activites if you are just bringing hime to someones house to play. Pay for that if someone quotes you 8-10 ph keep on walking probably a personality that might be hard to deal with anyways. Should not be more than $75 a week and that would be my very highest rate for one child, $50 would be fair to both parties, I think unless this is baby then def $75

If I was you, I would call the daycare centers and find out what their rates are...now most are full time rates but this will give you a good start. Also, call around to the at home daycares and ask them their rates. call to as many as you can and compare that. that will give you a really good idea. I use to do at home daycare for 1 infant (all I would do) and I charged her $125 a week full time..which is extremly cheap but since I have kids and it's so expensive to begin with..I wanted to make it affordable! My oldest went to daycare before I quite my job and did some at home care myself and that's what I did...I think it depends on the area that you live in too.

good luck! It's a hard decision and can get very frustrating at times!
