I will be 7 weeks pregnant tomorrow, and since I found out I have been avoiding caffine. I am soooooo tired and having a hard time keeping up with my crazy 14 month old and would love a cup of coffee to pick me up a bit. What do you think?

My doc actually told me (when I was prego with my first 2 kids) that I could have up to 3 cups a day (at 5 oz each) or home brewed or 1 cup of a place like Starbucks. With my 3rd one (6 weeks, 4 days), I'm limiting myself to no more than 3 cups/day and have found that water with a lemon works as well as a pick me up.

What I was always taught is it's perfectly acceptable to have one (1) cup of coffee or one (1) chocolate bar per day when you're pregnant.

I love my cuppa too. I do believe that the latest research I read says one cuppa a day is pretty much ok. It's when you're drinking several that problems could arise. Try talking to your health food shop, some have a Naturopath . He/she maybe able to advise a good multi vitamin as you maybe lacking in some minerals or vitamins. Making babies and looking after toddlers requires a LOT of energy. All the best.

Yeah - I don't see the soda freaks giving up their crank, so I think a cup or two of coffee is fine.

I was soooooo sick I couldn't drink my beloved coffee when I was pregnant. watery ice tea and hot mild herbal teas - that was it...

What if you had a cup of regular and then drink decaf after that each day? I avoided caffeine too, but I was a soda drinker and gave it up except for an occasional pepsi decaf. Good luck I know it's hard!

Just keep it down to a minimal amount....remember that one "cup" of coffee is only 5 oz....most of our mugs are at least 10-12 oz. I didn't drink coffee at all with my first pregnancy...I did with my second. My third & fourth pregnancies I did not drink coffee the first trimester because even the smell of it brewing made me seriously ill (whihc I thought was TOTALLY not fair!), but as soon as it stopped making me ill, I went back to it (I'm about 17 weeks now). The way I do it is to make my coffee 1/2 caf...that way if I enjoy a 10-12 oz mug of it, I know it is really only about 1 cup of caffeine. If you have concerns, talk to your doctor first :). Happy pregnancy!

Go for it!

My doctor told me it's ok to have coffee in moderation. One cup wont deform your child, it wont be born with two heads!

Besides, it's known that quitting something that relaxes you a wee bit causes added stress that could be harmful to baby. So whats worse? going into labor early because you were extremely stressed out, or having a cup or two of coffee a week? I think I would go with option two!

But really, it's up to you. Do what you think is best, a person can only say what they think here. In the end it's up to you.
