my little boy has red hair. i think its super adorable. but he doesnt have much hair, its just that newborn peach fuzz, and im sure its going to all fall out in the next couple months. my husbands mother has red hair, so does my moms brother, and my dads moustache is reddish too, but both his father and i (and everyone else in our families) have brown hair. so i was just wondering what do you think the chances of his hair staying red are? or is it most likely to turn brown?... i hope it stays red, it suits him so well.

my son had red hair when he was born, bc his great grandmother had it, it didn't fall out, but it turned blonde, with a redish tint.

his eyebrows and eyelashes are reddish blond, so i guess theres a good chance that he'll end up with reddish blond hair :)

My son was born with strawberry hair but it fell out and is now blonde. My daughter was born a true redhead-eyebrows and all- and has stayed that way. She aslo has blue eyes and her Ped calls her "one big recessive gene". My hair was black when I was born but then turned red over the first 2-3 weeks. My hubby had brown hair but has red in his beard and has a brother with flaming red hair. Hubby was a total tow-head til his tweens. We knew there was a very good chance we would have at least one.
Since red hair is a recessive gene you just never know when it will show up. Both of my parents have med brown hair as do my 3 siblings but mine is red. I was 10 before we discovered where it came from after someone did a family tree-great great grandmother on my fathers side! Not a single cousin had red hair either.
Red heads rule! LOL

The chances are very high. I have no red hair in me, my immediate family and even the "second" ring of family. The husband's side is all Irish so plenty of red-heads. Everyone always joked that the baby will be a ginger, and I said absolutely not going to happen. Both parents have to have a gene, and as far as I know, I have no gene. What do you know - the baby comes out a ginger! I was a blond as a kid and with Russian and German background there must be a ginger gene buried deep in me that I never knew of. And it totally manifested itself in our Ryan. So if you say both sides of your family do exhibit red hair in some way or form - the chance of YOUR baby remaining a red-head are quite high.

My son has red hair. I have blonde hair and my husband has brown hair. I was told that both parents have to carry the gene for the kid to have red hair.
Everyone asks where he got it, but it's just recessive genes in our case.
He's had red hair since day one and it's beautiful!

My little girls hair started off a lovely golden colour so we couldn't tell if it was going to be red or blonde. She is now 13 months and it's just got redder and redder, it's a beautiful colour! I am brunette and her dad is blonde so it comes from grandparents and uncles.

candi- I was born with red hair, and when i was a toddler it turned white blonde like your child. it is now dirty blonde with a reddish tint and a few light blonde spots, i have never dyed it. Kappy- my bd had red hair as a baby, its now dark brown, but his beard when he does let it grow has red in it too. since we both had red hair as babies, i expected our son to have red hair also. he is 5 months and still has it. his eyebrows are also red too. im curious to know if he will keep all of it or not since mine and his fathers hair changed color. he is a very very fair skinned, like i am, so im leaning on it not changing.

Red hair is a recessive gene so both sides of the family must carry it. Sometimes it is hard to know if it is in the family because old black and white photo's don't show the red hair! We were surprised when my niece was born with red hair because we didn't know it was in the family. Now I have 2 daughters with red hair myself, but different colours. My oldest is red-brownish and has the pale white skin to go with it. My youngest is strawberry blond. At 4 months they lost their hair but it came back the same colour. My niece who is 10 now still have the same colour as my oldest although it seems less fierce. Red heads are special, only 4-6% of the population. I hope it stays, the world can always use another redhead!

My great grandmother, grandfather, mom, daughter & I are all redheads. You have a few red heads in your family so chances seem good that he may stay a red head but you just can't know for sure :>)

Depending on how dark his hair is it will probably stay red. My daughter was born with a full head of red hair and it is still as red as ever. I have red hair and my husband had dark brown. My birth mother was a red head and so is my birth father but her husband has dark brown and my sisters both have dark brown. My husband's birth mother has dark brown hair but his birth father's hair color is unknown to us and he had reddish blond hair as a child before it darkened. I hope this helps as an insight into what could occur with your son's hair color.

Don't know what's more likely for your little guy but my sons were born with reddish hair and it stayed red (even got a little redder in one case) even though we expected their hair to go blonde like their dad's did when he was a year old. None of my girls have red hair. My hair is brown with red highlights and the only relative that I know of who had red hair was my great-grandfather. Hopefully it will stay red. Good luck!

I think it will stay red because my nephew's hair was red when he was born (somewhat dark) and now it's light red I'd say, kind of strawberry blonde, but really you never know! Most children who start out with red hair I think would stay, but if they are blonde or something there's no guarenteeing it will stay.

Neither of my parents had red hair but I did and still do although it's fading with age. I had 5 red headed kids out of 8 and none of them like it. They each had such a beautiful color. I hope your little boy keeps his red and that you can help him like it. Red heads get teased a lot.

My husband has brownish hair and my hair is blonde, but was red until I was about 9 mos.old. My grandma had red hair, as did my husbands. Both of my kids, now 8 and 10 were born with red hair and they both still have GORGEOUS red hair!! You've got it on both sides of the family, so I think the odds are good it's going to stay red!!!! Oh, and both my son and daughter were born with 'peach fuzz'!

Sounds like he has a good chance. You never know...my oldest was black when he was born, bleach blonde by two and now he is medium brown at 13.

Both my boys were born red (orange), but only my middle one kept it. The only noticeable difference between them was that the middle one had red eyebrows & eyelashes. All three get strawberry blondish highlights in the summer. Over time his hair has darkened so it is not so bright orange (he will be 16 next month). Not sure if this is scientific or not, but his brows and lashes are still red. ;)

I'm a red head and my fiance was a red head when he was little. Our little guy was born with red peach fuzz and still have red hair at 10 months. Look at his eye lashes. If they are red too theres more of a chance he'll stay a redhead! I love redheads!

Hi Shannon, I am a redhead that has 3 redheaded children. When my son was born, I was actually surprised that his peachfuzz was red. After speaking with the Dr. to see if it was temporary, I was told that in order to have red hair, both parents must carry the gene. As I discovered, there are redheads on both sides (I am the only one on my side that we know of, but my husband has it on both sides). When my daughter was born with red hair, I was again shocked. By the time I had my third child, I actually hoped she would also be a redhead so she wouldn't feel "left out". Sure enough, another ginger! The kids are now 26 (and a dad to a potential redhead), 22 and 17. They have all embraced their coloring. My poor white haired husband feels left out, but enjoyed being able to look like he wasn't "one of us" when they were little, and acting up! If your son stays red, remind him that girls are crazy about red hair when he feels "different". He may not appreciate it for a while, but eventually he will wear it proudly! :)

There is that possibility of his hair turning brown, but just for a little encouragement for you! I have red hair myself, both my parents have almost black hair, my sister and oldest brother both have brown hair, and my youngest brother had dirty blonde hair. I was born a red head and I stayed a red head! I hope this helps!

there's no way to know for sure. Only time will tell. My youngest was born red, then it turned white blond. She is 5 yrs old now and its still white blond! My husband and I both have brown hair and our older 2 kids. We all have brown hair/brown eyes. Our youngest is blond and blue eyed. All of my mom's family is blond and red, as well as my father in law's family. We thought at least one of ours would be red, but no luck

it should stay red, my son's hair was orange when he was born. He's now 2 and its still orange :) i have light brown hair(i was auburn as a baby), my husband has light brown, my husbands mom, his brother and his nephew all have red hair, theres some on my side and my husbands dads side. not all babies loose their hair.

There is no way to tell for sure if it'll stay red or not. I was born with peach fuzz (red) and I have red hair. My brother and sister were the same way. There is a chance his hair will stay red since there is a red hair gene in the family but only time will tell.

It is highly unlikely it will stay red, it will turn brown with red highlights in the summer.

Both my boys were born with really dark brown hair. By 2 months of age it turned to blond. My older son is now 4 and he has medium brown hair. My younger son is 2 and his has already started to go to a dark blond/really light brown. It's pretty much a guessing game.

When my daughter was born, she had black hair, then it fell out and grew in blonde. My son was born blonde, and it hasn't changed. Kinda funny since I have dark hair, and my husband is Native American, but he was blonde as a kid, and so was his dad, and my mom was as well. They all now have dark hair. My sister was blonde, and my dad has redish hair. You never know how the genetic cards will fall! LOL

Hard to tell. I think either way (if it does darken to brown) he'll still most likely have at least a red undertone to it.
I LOVE red hair. I've been dying my hair red for almost 10 years! What I wouldn't do to have natural red...*sigh* lol

My daughter was born a red head and 3 weeks later her hair turned bright blonde. She was a toe head for a while and it's been getting darker and darker as the years go by. There's no way to tell if he'll be a ginger or not as an older child or adult. But I do agree: I think gingers are adorable. :)

Not being a geneticist, it's hard to say for sure. Where he's starting off with red hair, that's a good sign. But there are really no guarantees. I had copper curls as a baby, and it wound up fading to a light reddish-brown. I hope your little boy's hair stays red as well -- red-headed kids are so cute!
