Rice cereal

My daughter is 5 months and 3 days old and has acid reflux. We have been trying rice cereal everyday once a day for 4 weeks now acting on her doctor's orders. She seems to lke it and even want it, opening her mouth for it, but she can not control her tongue still and keeps pushing every bit out. My first child took right to eating cereal and swallowing solids without any trouble, within a day or two, but my poor baby can't seem to get the hang of it. Does anyone know if this is because of the reflux or is it any other thing going on that I need to be worried about or have checked out?

First I would recommend oatmeal if she has acid reflux. It sits better in the tummy and really does help keep the tummy calm. Also try playing with the thickness of the cereal. It may be too thin or too thick. Start out thin and slowly thicken til she is eating it good. She may be one of those babies that start right off liking her cereal thick. When you decide to start juice or fruit-go with pears. They aren't very acidic and won't make her reflux flare up. Good luck!

I would just try and continue giving it to her. I actually feed cereal to my 2mth old. He does pretty well his tongue pushes some out but for the most part he swallows it. when you give it to her try to put it on the roof of her mouth. If I dont get it on the roof of his mouth he pushes it all out too. Good Luck, maybe that will help!

It's reflex. Try again in a week or so. Soon that reflex should ease.
