Hi moms,

My 6.5 month old boy started solid at 5 months. But can you tell me how much milk and how much solids you feed your 6-7months infant? How many oz of solids or do you feed half or 1 jar of stage 1 or 2 baby food? I cannot depend on my baby's cues coz he never turns his head away from solids or milk...he'll scream whenever bottle is out of his mouth and later he'll have a large amount of spit up (due to overfed). Pls advice!

Hi I have just started my 5 month old on solids as milk wasn't satisfying her appetite anymore. I found with my other children that I kept them on the same amount of milk at first until they went onto a larger amount of food , I used to give the same amount of milk after their breakfast 7-8 oz then at lunch I dropped it down to about 4 oz then the same at tea time then I gave a full bottle 7-8 oz in the evening just before bed to keep them content through the night , that way you can gradually ween them off of their lunchtime milk and get them into a three meals a day routine , once you have got them off of the lunch time milk you can give water or baby juice in a beaker, I found giving mine dessert after lunchtime food and then water/juice made them want milk less at that time . I use packet mix but when I used jar's I used to use the whole jar followed by the milk.... Hope that is of some help , I have 5 children so if you have any other questions feel free to contact me .

My son is now almost 9 months, and he started solids at 6 months old. I tried to be sure that milk (or formula) was still his main source of nutrition, so I don't think the introduction of solids should drop his liquid intake too much. It has only just now started to taper off for us. I think the most important thing is to work your way up to more food. And make sure you're giving the food after the milk (wait an hour if you like). We started right out with the stage two jars, so I gave him half of a jar for a few days. But like your son, mine always wants more. He can finish a stage 2 or stage 3 jar most days. I feed him solids usually twice a day - either 4-6oz of puree or as much table food as he wishes to eat.

My baby (she is my 5th baby) is breastfed so I can't comment on the oz. of milk, but I started her on solids around 5 months (she is 6 months now). She eats twice a day and she ranges between a small and a larger jar of food depending on how hungry she is and whether she has breastfed before she eats. She does spit up a little bit sometimes, but I think this is pretty normal since their digestive system is still pretty immature and "short" relative to ours. However if he is spitting up a lot, it might be worth asking your doctor if he could be having some problems with reflux. I had one child that had reflux and there are great and safe medicines that you can give them to help with this.
