My 5 month old daughter has recently started screaming while shes sleeping, at first it was just during the day with her naps but last night she did it through the night, does any one else have this problem?? most the time she can settle her self but others it takes a while to calm her back down, any help???

My son does that too.  He used to do it all the time but now he does it on occation.  He only does it now when he is too hot/cold or had a bad dream.  I just comfort him and put him back down imediatly and he falls asleep.

My son also had night terrors from about 12months till he was about 2years and we would just rub his back and hush him quietly back to sleep, do not wake them , I did a lot of research on night terrors and they all said that was the worst thing for them.  He finally out grew it.  After about 6 months of going and rubbing his back we would let him work it out on his own and it helped that at 18 months we moved him from the crib to the toddler bed and that helped slow down the night terrors.  He fell out of bed a couple of times but got use to the new bed farely quickly.  That I think helped him cause then he did not feel trapped in the crib.  Just be patient your child will out grow it, since most do.

It sounds like night terrors to me. Studies have shown that these can increase if your child id overtired when thay go to bed, and oddly enough, cheese. Strange i know but cant really argue with the experts!

Is she awake when she screams out? If not this is called night terrors and they are like bad dreams that go to far and the children can't snap out of the dream. Just comfort her and she will fall asleep and be ok. I don't recomend med. you don't want to give them something when it's not what they need. Med's are ONLY for temp's and infection unless you know for sure her tummy hurts. Don't worry about her getting to attatch with you holding her or coming to her rescuse when it's bed time and not going to sleep with out you. This will pass and she will sleep fine after. It's usually a stage where their brain is working over time most kids get them between birth and 2yrs old is what I was told. My son had them for a couple of years from the time he was about 5mths old till he was about 3yrs old off and on.Good luck and I hope this helps.

my son does this he is 7 months old

i make sure not to get him up what works for him is just to hold his hand and rub it a little

and sometimes if that doesnt work i give him a little medicine bc you never know if their tummy is just upset or they are a little warm

Hi Frances, do you make sure all the lights are switched off in the room when you put her to sleep?
