Having sex is the only safe tip that i can give you as the labor begin on his own. Stay calm and rest all you can...after the birth you will not do it in the same way for the rest of your life :-)

Ok , walking .. really ? No .. walking helps only when already in labor . I waitress 8 hours a day 4 days a week . No sitting. Due tommorow , worked till 1 am last night.. castor oil .. no.. drank a whole botle . Walked 8 hours . Pooped a lot . That baby was 2 weeks late. Look at a herbal site. I forget what's its called but I found it easily . There are tons of herbal teas and supplaments that induce labor .. some so strong they were sadly used for obortion before it was leaglized. Seeriously , if u gt this rout do your research so that u don't harm your baby.

I walked 9 miles, ran 200 stairs, took a few shots of castor oil, used a lot of primrose oil, ate fresh pineapple, bounced on an excercise ball, and used nipple stimulation all within 2 days. My water broke and I delivered 3 hours later with no complications what so ever!

Sex is a good way to start labor. But the best thing to do is be a little more patient and let it happen on its own. It will happen or the doctors will step in and induce labor if they see a need. Your baby will arrive when he/she is ready. Remember once your child is here there will be no more rest. Enjoy what you have. Natural is best. Mother nature will take its course.

Lots of sex. If you're already dialating it could happen at any time anyways. I get to 3cm - 4cm slowly over about 1 to 2 weeks, completely painless, and then have very sudden, very quick labours.
You could ask your carer to do a membrane sweep. Basically they will put a few fingers right up in there and stretch the opening which is very effective for triggering labour for some women. But it is very uncomfortable.
It'll happen soon so just relax and enjoy the quiet while you can:) Goodluck.

Well I hate to say this but really there is no magic way to go into labor really. But i do think that what helped me was my doctor, i was the same boat you are in and went in that same time period and she luckily reached in/up and stripped the membranes of the cervix area, most docs dont like to do this but that night i went into full labor and dilated past my measley 1cm, next day had a baby!!

im sure youve alrady delivered but for future refference, thier are pressure points in your ankles that trigger the contraction and dialation of the uterus. have some give you an good old fashion sunburn on your ankles. it feels great but you water should break within 4-8 hours

I know others have recommended sex and that can work, but doctors usually say not to have sex if you are dilated any - because your cervix open and you could get an infection.
really?? Cause my doctor told both my fiance and I that we could have sex right up until my water breaks.... Although he hasn't been willing because he's scared my water will break durring
If your water hasn't broken the baby is still protected from germs; cervix being open is fine. However, if you water breaks it's time to go to the hospital because baby's lost that protection.
Thats what I thought... of course if my water breaks I'll be on my way to the hospital ASAP....

Please don't eat or drink anything to induce labor; you don't know the effect that will have on your little one.
Walk - gravity will help her move down.
Sex - sperm will help loosen the mucous plug; the hormone also causes uterine contractions.
Nipple stimulation - true nipple stimulation (not just lightly touching them) will also cause uterine contractions. (Easiest to feel that effect when you're breastfeeding - you can feel the cramps then.
If these things don't work when your membranes have already been stripped, then it's just NOT TIME.

Well after two babies, both born WAY after their due date...I believe those things..sex, walking, castor oil, whatever..only work if your baby is ready to come. I went into labor with my first baby after having sex at 41 weeks and 3 days. my second wouldn't come for anything. 16 days after my due date he was born. No membranes stripped or anything. Some babies take longer than others. Be patient the wait is worth it

If you are already dialated then acupuncture not all acupuncture places do it but ring them and ask. There is one they do but only if you are over 38weekd and your cirvex has softened which your's obviously has and you will be in labour with in 24 hours. This is the only thing that I am aware of. Do not do caster oil as it can actually be dangerous for the baby. I know everyone does it but beleive me it is not good my friend did it and still has bad bowl problems as she ruptured something from doing that

Relax!! You are only 39 weeks...well by now you are 40 and may have already went into labor *fingers crossed* Everyone is different. I did everything under the sun and still had to be induced at 41 and a half weeks. The baby will come when it's good and ready and stressing about it will only make it take longer. Take a nice hot bath and just relax :)

my midwife suggested oil of primrose I think it was called. Buy the capsules at the drugstore and rather than taking them, insert 3 or 4 at bedtime. There are prostaglandins that should help soften your cervix and get things moving along. Good luck!

O my word! You've recieved a-LOT of old wives tales here. Sex and nipple stimulation are two real ways to stimulate contractions and the ankle pressure point really works but the level of pressure needed to stimulate the nerve is actually painful. Please, please, PLEASE do not take herbal supplements to induce labor without talking to your doctor. Some of them can affect your blood pressure and the blood flow to the baby. Some are excellent used in conjunction with other things but ALWAYS inform your doctor. Your little one is relying on you to provide him or her a safe beginning. Do something nice for yourself tonight instead of trying to force your body to go into labor...Take pregnancy photos draped in a sheet, paint your toe nails, make pasta, read a book, drink a hot cup of tea, write a letter to your baby, your baby's father, your mother...start a scrap book, walk your dog, talk to your fish, make a fruit salad...just be pregnant for one night without needing to go into labor. It will happen one day soon. I know because I've been in your shoes 5 times and to this day I regret not taking the time to revel in the last moments of my pregnancy with 4 of my children. It was in my final pregnancy I learned to revel in my pregnant state. God bless!

walk walk walk walk walk! I tried everything with my second baby...teas (black cohosh), sex, eggplant parmesian, ceasar salad, spicy food, playing music, everything that was recommended on any website. What finally sent me into labor was walking 3 miles. ..although I have to say here that it might have just been that he was ready. That's what babies do, they come when they're ready no matter what you do!

I felt the same way as i think we all do in the final stretch, have you tried to stimulate your nipples that can help somewhat, or when you go to the doctor what worked for me and sent me into labor like 6 hours after my appointment was when the doc does the cervical check and is feeling that have her kind of as my doc said "stir the pot" manipulate it a bit by trying to open or stretch it out. (kind of striping the membranes)she said they dont tend to do that much nut she new how bad i wanted to go.. and it worked... good luck if you havent already had your little one

You might want to try some cohosh tea. It stimulates uterine contractions. I drank it with my three year old. Everyone including the docs kept telling me since it was my 1st to get comfortable cause the 1st never come on time.... On my due date which was the 23rd of july I drank 2 cups of the tea. At 3:17am my water had broken. Before the tea my mucus plugs or anything hadnt started. I wouldnt diolate so they started patosen (spell check). By 11:09 on the 25th my wonderful bundle of joy had entered this world. They say for some the patosen work faster than it did for me.............. You can get the tea from a herbal store. GOOD LUCK!!!!!!

Sorry I didn't tell you how to take black and blue cohosh.
Start with black cohosh a droppful in a sm. about 2-3 oz of water and one hour later do the same with blue cohosh. Wait for an hour start with black cohosh and go on. MY contractions started after four droppful of cohosh!

Leave the poor baby alone! Dont you feel a little bit selfish? Let it come when it's supposed to, when it's ready. Labor is in God's hands, not yours. If you have to go through this much trouble, to rush a labor along, that clearly isn't ready - Maybe it's not the right time. I say, stop all the crazy methods. If you induce the labor, and God forbid something goes wrong or there's any complication at all, you'd never forgive yourself, you'd always wonder "would this have happened if I had waited".
Women these days get all excited about getting pregnant and have babies, yet when you're in the last leg of the race, you want to give up and look for a short cut? Be stronger than that, and more patient. It'll set the course of your parenthood. Trust me, You'll need lots of patience after their born! I have 3. And they were all 2 weeks late.

I don't want to be discouraging, but I've been a massage therapist for 10 yrs, and doing reflexology for 4 - the foot/ankle pressure points thing is just an old wives' tale. I actually tried it on a client whose doctor told her to try it (she was past her due date) and two days in a row she had a massage and reflexology. It didn't work. You can't make your body do something it won't do on its own. (Think how many doctors would do this instead of inducing with hormones.)
I am due on the 23rd and I am SO ready!! My cervix is completely effaced, but NO dilation (for the past two weeks). The doctor told me I'm just one of those that it will happen when labor starts. Not really what I want to hear, but at least I know that there's nothing wrong and it will happen eventually. (Though we'll discuss induction at next week's appointment.)

I know you really do not want to hear it but castor oil even if it did not bring labor around it could cause the baby to have a BM and it could float around in the sac and the baby could chock on it. It could cause alot of problems

This is very common in woman who had criosurgery, did you??
As a CBE and CBD, also mother i'm going to give you some tips.
You can try Senna tea as laxative, ussualy you will have contractions in a couple of hours after and then they will stop for a couple of hours...when your body start cleanning must of the time this include the uterus cleaning so the labor start faster. Have dinner at 6pm and the tea @ 9 before sleep, you can do it every 2 days. The day and the day after the tea try not to eat salty food neither fat cause you will have gastric pain instead contractions.
Also you can use a breastmilk double pump every 3-4 hours during 15 minutos. Medela pump in style is the best and the easier one.
Try not to walk to much cause edema will no help.
Sex is always recomended if you feel comfotable and if not bleedng.
You can also massage your belly from chest to pelvis telling your baby that is time to go out and that you all love him/her....
Remember that is very important that you feel your baby movement all the time in an active way.
If this is your second baby, dont worry all can happen the same day of labor :-)
The most important thing is the pelvic station, not the dilation cause the babies head will open your cervix.
Hope this help and have amazing birth!

I never went into labor by myself with any of my four kids. Walking helps. In the hospital they had me put hot packs on my breasts and also roll my nipples between my fingers with baby oil. This can be fun if Dad wants to help. Thats all it ever took for me to start labor.

hi there , have you tried rasberry leaf tea or rasberry leaf capsuals ?? also without sounding too personal , you could try nipple stimulation , it is apparently sopposed to release chemicals to start or encourage your labour to start . good luck .
I was going to say the same thing about the nipple stimulation. It is said to actually be like Pitocin. I was 2 weeks overdo and 4cm dialated for 1 wk. I still had to be induced because my baby was too big for my birth canal. So there can be different reasons why the baby doesn't come on time. I had to end up having a c section. I did alot of walking to help bring her down but it didn't work. I guess sometimes we can't mess with God's plan and timing. :)
