My daughter is 8 months old and has started having separation anxiety at night. Up until this past week if she didn't fall asleep while nursing I would be able to put her in her crib with a blankie and she would fall asleep on her own without any problems. Starting within the last week she seems to be suffering from separation anxiety, when I put her in the crib and walk out of the room she starts crying and not a I'm tired cry she full fledge cries! As soon as I walk back into the room she stops crying. I usually let her cry for a couple of minutes and then I go back in rock her for a couple of minutes, fix her blanket, give her the binkie and put her back in the crib but as soon as I start walking to the door she starts crying. Tonight I repeated the process for an hour when she finally fell asleep while rocking her. I have a 4 year old that I need to get to bed too so it's taking a toll on me because once the kids get to sleep it's my time to myself since I am a full-time working mom, my husband can't help with the night time routine because he works nights. Also she doesn't get upset when I leave for work during the day because she's with her father.
I am looking for suggestions on how to ease the separation anxiety at night for my little one or to help her understand that mommy will be back. I am not looking to make this about crying it out.

if you have a old tshirt or a tshirt youve worn that day put it in her bed so she has the smell of you there. My daughter did the same and I slowly weaned her off me I would go in her room not switching any light on and just sit by her crib and not say anything as soon as she nodded off walk straight out gradually just sitting nearer to the door. She got the hang of it in the end
