Should I let him sleep?

My little guy is really sick. He has had a temp for two days and the doc says it's just a cold. He slept from 1am til 11:40am this morning, was kind of awake for a while (kind of out of it), fell asleep on me on the floor (we were supposed to be playing) at 1pm and has been asleep since. It's now almost 5pm and I'm worried. Should I just let him sleep or wake him to have him drink something. He hasn't been drinking much when he is awake and his diaper was only a little wet this morning. He is almost 2 but I'm not sure if that is ok. I've never seen him this sick before!

Do you have a syringe? If so, give him a syringe full of liquid every 10 minutes, that way he will become rehydrated. Dehydration can make a child lethargic and not be interested in drinking, so you are going to have to force the issue a little with the syringe until he is willing to drink on his own.

We did the ER thing last night because his fever wouldn't come down, The PA that we saw said "it's just a cold". She made me feel so dumb! He finally woke up but he isn't drinking much, and keeps coughing. I guess if he gets a lot worse we can always go back but I'm going to try and wait til Monday to see how he does. Thanks for all the advice. It's nice to know I'm doing the right thing.

Wake him up, he needs fluids before getting dehydrated, he might need to go to the ER! Hope he gets better soon!

Sleep the best thing for them and for the body to rest and get over the sickness

I would take him to the ER. It's not worth the chance that something more serious may be going on. I hope he's alright.
