Should I try rice cereal with my son?

My Son will be 4m on the 16th of this month. He has been a great sleeper from the day I brought him home. But ever since 3m he has been waking at night 3 sometime 5 times a night, Not sure if its just normal. He eat 6oz during feedings I've tried going to 7 but he wont drink it. But he will want to eat like 2hr later if I try to hold of just a little longer he will scream and I don't want to have that feeling he's being starved so I feed him again. Any ideas or is this normal. Right now he's formula during the day and and breast milk at night. My milk slowed way down but with a little help I'm getting it back.

I guess the other question would be when I go back to breast milk do i just switch or do i need to slowly do it. He has no problem taking it at night and he sometime nurses during the day.

4 months is a prime time to start waking at night again. Lots of moms find that their previously sleeping-through babies start waking often around 4 months. It's really quite normal. I wouldn't start solids yet.. plus there's no evidence it helps babies sleep. I agree with Teresa regarding offering the breast first at all feedings.

At 4mo's you can start solids however, if you are going to breastfeed and try to increase your milk supply I believe it is recommended to hold off until about 6mo's.

Just giving advice based on my own experience not what I have read. As a Caribbean woman, we tend to have old skool ways of handling things and they have worked as opposed to other theories. oops

Solids and sleeping longer don't usually have anything to do w/ each other.... it's just a coincidence... that I'm well aware some parents swear by.

Cereal in a bottle is very, very rarely recommended and then only for reflux issues.

I would actually give him a teaspoon of cereal in his bottle to give the milk some body. That tends to hold babies hunger good at night.

I 'think' I would nurse him first ALL the time and only give formula in a small amount if he's still hungry after offering both breasts. If he wants to eat again two hours later.... nurse him again. Breastmilk works on supply and demand, so if he's demanding it and you are giving it to him (or at least trying) it will build your supply up WAY faster than only nursing at night.

As for the solids the recommendation is 6 months (some say 4-6, some say 6-8), so.... all I can tell you is what I did w/ my own kids. My twin girls started at 3.5 months. They wanted it, were ready, and never had any problems. My son didn't take his first bite of anything until 6 months and then his interest came and went so much that he wasn't even eating on a daily basis up til he was around a year.
