Sick 10 week old, what can the doc do?

Thanks ladies! The doc said to do a humidifier and saline nose drops. He had a big sneeze last night and cleared his nose out. I've never been so happy to see boogers in my life! lol.

Children's Tylenol has a nasal drops/spray. It has no medications in it. Its safe for babies. I used it on both my sons and it works pretty good.

If he is congested the dr might recomend simple saline nose drops for infants. That is what they gave me for my son. Other than that there is not a lot they can give you.

jsut to warn you about the vicks baby rub...i was told by a lady at the store, when i bought it that if your baby is under about 2 years of age you needed to be VERY careful! there was apparently a news report about kids getting very sick off the baby vicks rub being rubbed on their chest! they suggest to use it little at a time and rub it on their back!

there isnt to much a doctor is willing to do with colds! the baby needs to go through it to develope a tolerance to the germs! johnsons makes a baby vapor bubble bath that you can sit int he tub withyour baby and poor it in and it might help with the congestion a little bit! its a green bottle and you can find it with the other baby shampoos and body washes! my husband was gone for a month when me and my daughter both got sick witha cold for two weeks! i know how unbelievably frustrating it is to ot be able to help your baby more! just keep them well hydrated and lots of sleep! try baby tylenol if he fights napping! good luck to you!

My daughter was a very sicky baby when she was younger (Had lots of cold etc within the first 3 months) I did find that my breast milk help, i think this is something to do with your own bodies immune system and antibodies or something like that. I also found that carvol was brilliant (an inhalent that you drop onto pillows etc), i'm not sure if it says about it not being suitable for babies under 3 months but i used it for my daughter from about 5 wks. It tells you to put it on their pillow or near their head i didnt do this with her being quite young and found that if i put the drops onto a hanky or linen cloth and hung it on the door handle or the curtain tie back holder that it still could be inhaled in the room. I use this most times she gets a sniffle now and it gets rid of it quite quickly.

Our Pediatrician is better about perscribing things than most, I suppose. The time that I took my Daughter to the ER for a cold and vomiting though, they told me they could not perscribe anything and that she was really too young for the Infants Tylenol because excess could cause long term liver damage and she was about 3 months at the time.



For the vomiting, you can keep fluids like pedialyte and such in her. They did tell me that, but in smaller doses like 4 oz at a time. COLD air humidifiers set on the far side of the room and Vicks baby rub on his chest but only a small amount IF your Pediatrician approves. Call him/her, though. Different Doctors say/think different things. I hope he feels better! :)
