Sippy cup, my baby, and daycare...

Hi Everyone,

I am having trouble with my daycare provider. I started my baby on a sippy cup because she hates drinking her milk from a bottle. And it is SO much more convenient too because she can hold it herself. I left an extra sippy cup with my daycare provider the other day. She told me that she felt my daughter was too young to use it. Now mind you she has been using it for about a week now at home. I bought a sippy cup that said 6 months +, and she is five months. Is she right that my baby should still be drinking out of a bottle??

If she can drink well from a sippy then I don't see any reason why she has to be on a bottle. You pay the daycare to watch your child and if you prefer her on a cup than that is the way it should be.

She can give you her advice but it ultimately up to you on what your child uses. But remember, what she does with you and what she does at the daycare is two different things. I would sit down with your daycare provider, her specific "teacher", and talk over what they do with her there versus what you do at home. Then both of you can come up with a game plan that works not only for you but for your daughter as well. I'm saying this all from experience because it is what I had to do with my daughter a few months ago with her daycare provider. If you are not on the same page then your daughter will likely become a little confused on the subject that is different between the two of you.

umm, its your child. tell your daycare provider that you want a sippy cup used, and that if she doesnt respect your wishes on this matter then you will take it up with whoever runs the center. if you have bottles there, take them away and make a note in your childs chart - if they have one. (which they should have something that lists all of the feeding times etc for kids.)

If your baby prefers a cup than that is what the daycare provider should use. my daughter is breastfed and always hated bottles. i started giving her a cup at 4 months. That daycare provider needs more education on when infants can use cups!

My son started on a soft topped sippy at 4 months, just cuz he hate the bottle. She's not right. It's your baby you do what you think it best and tell the babysitter to respect/follow your wishes.

Most babies at this age are using both. However, if she is doing absolutely fine and still getting enough formula and most of it is not running down her face. Then only send sippy cups and explain you have taken all bottles away. Although at this age really there is no concern for her to still be on a bottle but it is purely your decision.

If your daughter is doing well with the cup, then fine. Frankly the sooner you can get them off pacis and bottles the better! If you daycare provider is going to fight you on things like this, you may need to find a new provider.

I think its totley fine, all the baby books i have read say to start useing a cup as early as you think there ready, if she wants to GREAT plus bottles lead to teeth problums so its a good thing that your daughter is useing a cup.

If your baby is happy to use it then no she is not right. You are the babies mother and you know best. Tell the lady at daycare that you want your daughter to use it and that is final. Dam cheek!
