Sippy cup to regular cups...

Thank you for all your feedback! I was thinking the other cups were probably not worth the money but wanted to get some other opinions...much appreciated! : )

I'm a mother of two ages 7 and 5 and I never realized there were different stages until now. LoL. I guess that's how much attention I pay to that. I really never did the stages for anything. When they were old enough to drink from a sippy cup, I let them choose the one they liked and bought it. So to answer your question, No, if he's doing fine with the one you have, there is no reason for changing it and spending more money on a new one. It really comes down to your's and your child's personal preference.

My daughter went from a bottle to a regular cup no sippys. I hate transitions. Why teach them something more than once? I hold the cup she drinks from it she doesn't hold it herself or try to. She's 15mo. She puts her hands on it and guides it. I figure when she shows an interest I will let her hold it herself. She will also drink from bottles of water and glasses in restaurants so much easier to order a glass of milk or water rather than pack it in. She will not however drink from a straw. I haven't tried really hard, I figure what's the bonus? She drinks from a glass so who cares? I also don't need her to carry around drinks with her. She has a bottle of water available she can ask for help with and she knows how to go to the fridge and ask for milk. So anyways point is maybe your son might not need the transitions. Try it and see!

i don't know what the stages are for myself and i wondered that. but my daughter is 16 months and she uses all stages...always has. since i started buying sippy cups and still now i buy whatever and don't look at the ages. I figure as long as she can drink out of.

I agree with most of the other comments in that it isn't necessary to go through all the stages. Personally, my daughter went from bottle to sippy cup, then to drinking from a "sippy cup" with a flexible silicone "straw"...it makes her feel like a big girl to drink from the straw and it is still spillproof. She learned very quickly to drink from the straw and she can take sips from mom and dad's glass without a straw too. I think lingering with the sippy cups that look and feel more like a nipple will hinder them from learning to drink out of big girl cups and is also not good for their teeth. The reason I switched to one with a straw is because I could see my daughters teeth changing shape and getting more crooked. This stopped when we changed to a cup with a straw. I think because it isn't shaped like the nipple of a bottle, it doesn't have that bad effect on the teeth and it also doesn't promote tooth decay.

I didn't bother with stages cups, my girl went from a bottle to a sippy cup then to a regular cup as soon as she got the hang of drinking from it. She still uses a sippy cup when I give her water at night because I haven't found a bedside table for her yet so she keeps the cup in bed with her. Save your money is my opinion.

with working in day care for years we had strict rules as to what we could use in different age groups. A bottle/ sippy cup up to a year, Sippy cup up to 2 years. After that they had to use regular (toddler) cups. (as for what they did at home...) They learn really fast not to tip the cup too far. As for the straws... they don't learn to advance to regular cups... i would use this after a regular cup have been achieved.

i too agree with that sippy cups are great for the furniture but my youngest daughter in a way used it as her bottle. We had more of a hard time to take the sippy cup away then we did the bottle..but best of luck with your son =D

My son is 18 months now and I have just started him with a cup that has a lid and straw he is fine with it. I thought that it was a bit more grown up than a sippy cup, but he cant spill it.

I used the stages for my daughter, yes they were worth it. She had the chance to figure out the more you tip the cup the more liquid is going to come out. they created less spills for me. hope i could help

Heather I didn't



to me sippy cups were to save the furniture from a dousing and wet spots on the floor. Not a training aid. I don't recall much of a fuss switching from one to the other.
