My boys started out sitting as well, I didn't even have to coach them to start standing they just started doing it on their own; I think it also has a lot to do with them watching daddy

What a topic you moms are discussing about, "boys stand or sit to pee"! So let me tell you some thing then, not bad if you know that in my culture the male people avoid peeing while standing! In my country it's so, as my religion has recommended not to pee while standing, and to do it while sitting or squatting. I know there, they teach the kid when he can stand up, how to pee while standing, but it's not so here. However, I am male and quite healthy, but I don't pee while standing. You should consider that there are many different ways and theologies around the world.

To my own, peeing while standing is a nasty actions, also it does not feet a man's character, that's like you imagine a respectable man standing up still some where, his penis is out and his piss line in front of him! Who made the rule that males MUST stand up while urinating? And don't relate it to the nature, potentially many things are natural as an ability; one can bring it out (gun), aim and kill, but he has choosing power, although he has the ability, but he may not do it if he is sane; one can just bring it out, aim and piss, but does it mean he can not do it in a way but that?

Why stand to pee? Why aim? Aiming is for the time when you are distant to your target and can't be close to it, but when you can be close to it, and if you are sane, you prefer being close to your target than aiming to the target. So sit down and be relax, the name of the place you are doing that in, is rest room! And why you waste your time and energy in cleaning bathrooms? You can save it for more useful affairs by reducing the need of bathroom to be cleaned!

As for those who say "peeing while standing is of a few pleasures of a man!", I should say that a man is more valuable than way of peeing places as his pleasure and property! It does not fit a man to consider that as his worth! Men have more valuable special abilities to be mentioned! And as for those who say "peeing while standing is much easier than doing it while sitting or squatting", I should say that bending over and pulling down pants, and keeping a part of panties down for a while and aim for a while both need an attempt; and the fact that which one is easier for a person depends on habit. The way in which one's habit is based on, is easier for that one, and to which you habit, it will be easier for you! As God has made the ability of peeing while standing easily in guys, it must have an advantage, and yes it has. In men's jobs some times urgent situations happen, and some times they have to do some thing in a short time when the speed is important, and some times men have situations that they can't sit or squat or are in places where sitting or squatting is not easily possible; in such times they can use their ability of peeing while standing easily. But these urgent times just some times happen, not always! So I think there should be a project for men to stop, or to say better, manage peeing while standing. However, it will be great if the current way of peeing of guys in toilets and bathrooms, in the most parts of the world changes.

i used a ping pong ball as they dont sink and the boys have to try and hit it. but my son is now 15 and still sits to pee his father does but we split when my son was only 15 mths old so i do believe it is in the genes. he may always sit to pee. i ask my son y he does it and he replies with he is to lazy to stand.

As someone who still has to clean pee off the seat sometimes after my 15 year old goes to the bathroom I say...

My sister just got done potty training my nephew. started sitting down but wanted to stand so we just used colored water when he wanted to stand up to go pee we bought the tablets that make the toilet water blue and told him if he pee'd in the potty the water would turn green... it made him giggle and aim right where it needed to be and if he missed a little when he was done we'd make him clean up his mess. Let him watch dad and follow his lead. My son started peeing sitting down. Later he stood on his own because of watching daddy and also getting to pee on trees outside in the back yard. I found this was cleanest and best to get him to start getting ready to poop in the potty too. As for aim… good luck with that one. My son is great most of the time—always was. However, when he is sleepy I still encourage him to sit down so he does not do yellow art on the walls LOL.

My ex-sister in law used Cheerio's, I laughed when she told me about it. My son will be starting potty training soon. My day care provider said she would be starting him by sitting down. She said if we wanting him to stand we would have to train him ourselves.

LOL, I HAVE A TWO YEAR OLD AND I TAUGHT HIM TO SIT AND PEE BUT BACHWARDS ON THE TOILET SO HE WOULDNT FALL IN, THATS THE EASIEST WAY AT FIRST, THEN WHEN THEREA EXPERT AT THAT AND CAN JUST DO IT ON THERE OWN, THEN THEY WILL TAKE IT INTO THERE OWN HANDS AND PEE STANDING UP ALL ON THERE OWN, MY TWO YEAR OLD SAW HIS DAD PEEING STANDING UP AND THEN ONE DAY I COUGHT HIM PEEING STANDING UP, AND HE DID A GOOD JOB. JUST LET HIM GET THE EASY WAY DOWN FIRST THEN EVERTHING WILL FALL INTO PLACE, GOOD LUCK

i would rather my boy sit to pee FOREVER! i don't care what men say - they still miss even when they grow up. ick. but i think i'll wait for him to stand until he sees daddy or asks about it. i'll try the bubbles. sounds easier than cheerios - wastes less, and can be used in any bathroom. logging that info in the back of my mind.

All boys will learn to sit to usae the potty at first. They are just too small to reach standing. I used the cheerio method and told him to shoot it and it did work. He found it fun. Best of luck!!

I was a single mother when my son was little. He learned to sit down and go to the bathroom first. The Cheerios didn't work, they were to little. I cut out targets out of toilet paper and colored them red instead. It worked better. He is now going on 17 and his bathroom in one of the cleanest ones in the house. Fruit loops work after he got the targets down. Good luck.

My son wouldn't sit to pee. I use to follow him around with the potty and then try to sit him on it but he would get up and pace around all frantic till he finally couldn't hold it and more and peed all over (while still walking around!) Finally I put the potty in position to catch the pee tried to let him do what he was comfortable with so he didn't get so frantic until he was standing still with me holding the potty up then in the bathroom with me holding the potty up but over the toilet and finally he peed straight in the toilet with ping pong ball to improve aim! The problem came when he sat for a poo and wee'd at the same time as he wasn't used to pointing his (circumsized) penis downwards. I'd just say let him do what he's comfortable with and let him watch his dad go! No pressure and he'll be fine.

We are still trying to teach our grandson to sit on the potty.
He just wanted to pee on the diaper....
Boys are harder to train.
I think during my time we only have cloth diaper, we did not use much diaper time, training pants or bare bottom... the mass is not comfortable for the parents.
Good luck, let me know if cheerio work. We were told to do that too.

another way to get him to aim is to show him that pee hitting water makes bubbles..m son loves making bubbles and almost never gets pee anywhere but in the potty

my son does both but learned to sit when he peed first. I never used the Cheerios but I've heard they work. I think my son learned to pee standing when we were in the woods without a bathroom and he had to use a bush. After that he was a pro.

when training my son we started on sitting, I believe this is a good start and once he got taller we started to stand. this way he feels he is big enough to stand when he got taller. We didn't try the cheerios but I did start the skittles after he would stand and pee.

My son started out peeing sitting down. He started peeing standing up when he was tall enough and decided he wanted tp pee like Daddy. It was just that simple for us. Oh and the Cherrio trick didn't work at all.

Not unusual for him to sit and pee. Eventually he will get the hang of it. You will probably have to show him how to aim. Or get a male in your family to teach him how to aim...But eventually, he will know.

I potty trained my son sitting down. It was easier that way. But now we are teaching him to stand. He's almost three. His loves standing (has to stand on a stool because he's still a little short to stand without one), he likes peeing like daddy does. I think it's important for him to see his dad pee and to relate to that.

deffinatly sitting to pee at first ! lol my eldest who is 10 still sits to pee he seems quite happy like that so I wont stop him ,my 6 year old was very late to potty train but he very quickly graduated to standing , not sure there is a correct time to get them standing love the cheerio idea!

My boys sat at first also. They will stand when they feel comfortable. You might want Dad to take them or a male figure. When my boys saw Dad and Grandpa stand then they were ready. I heard the cheerios method works. I just always rewarded them when they went. When they started to stand I would tell them what a big guy they were. Praise goes a long way. Good Luck!

My friend swears by the Cheerios method and she has two sons. My son still sits to pee and I'm just glad that he's peeing in the toilet. I wouldn't worry about whether he sits or stands because the alternative is cleaning up pee off the floor!

my son still sits to pee- he refuses to stand, and his dad has been encouraging him to do it, but he just wont. he is 3 been toilet traind not quite 8 months, im not to bothered by it- as long as he goes in the loo i say!!

Absolutely started my son off by sitting. He still does so now a year and a half later when at home. If he's in public, he stands. I would probably show your son both ways, but use which ever way you prefer at home. I just feel it's easier for them to do so sitting because they may not catch the urge in time if they need to poop at the same time, sometimes. :) Especially if they're still learning.

we are going to keep our son sitting (his dad does) unless in public places. I think its more of a preference than anything.

We tried to train our first sitting, and stopped when he accidentally peed on the ceiling. Standing was much easier for us to teach.

I thought most boys started by sitting, but in saying that i know others that stood early too. I have also heard when they are big enought to use the toilet to put a ping pong/ table tennis ball into the loo as something for them to aim at.

LOL! I never tried the cheerio method but my son did start by sitting also. I finally had his dad show him the way he does it and he then started to alternate between sitting and standing; then finally standing. I guess they are around us so much they think they're supposed to sit. I also used a potty sticker book for rewards each time he went to the potty.
