My daughter just turned 2 and for some reason does not want to go to bed early anymore. Even without a nap all day she wants to stay up until 11-12pm. Any ideas as to how to get her to lay down and actually go to sleep?

Persistance!!  I had this with my son about the same age.  He was beginning to understand more and realise that mummy and daddy were not going to bed at the same time as him and wanted to stay up.  I let him have a DVD or the radio/CD on for a while and he always fell asleep within half an hour, usually much sooner.  You just have to be persistant and consistant, explain kindly that it is her bedtime and reassure her that mummy will be there for her in the morning and loves her, kiss her goodnite and leave the room.

Good luck & dont forget its not forever xx

That is a bit of a tricky one, she is going through that "growth spourt" right now and it could be anything. So as long as your awake or if she hears sounds at night things like that she might not go to bed. but if she thinks that your going to bed because you have to get up early try that. Hear are some things that might help:

Laying down with her and reading a book, if you can find a fairy tale book in a old used book store or a long story (somthing our grandmothers used to read us!!)

You can still get a VHS and DVD hook up try and start collecting the disney movies She will become attached to them ... Forget about treehouse you will actually get to watch tv!!and the best part is second hand childrens stores sell both VHS/ DVD for under 8 dollars!!!

Try getting her a blanket and favorite stuffed animal she is going to start school soon - besides you and her dad these are her protectors type thing and she will be a bit more free and less scared to do things. Its just that extra security some kids want it don't know why??

Hope this helps ... I have seen this before when I volenteered in a afterschool program and the favorite Books and stuffed toys work the best!!

hi,

i'm no expert and i am not trying to be, but my daughter suddenly started to moan just before going to sleep and as i have an older sibling in the same room I ended up bringing her downstairs for a while and she would fall asleep downstairs! I hated this as it meant she was getting into bad habbits, so one night I took her up directly after her bottle (around 9pm) and she cried!. I ignored her for 2 minutes, she fell asleep and I havent had a problem since. My friend had the same problem and ignored her son for 10 mins and the same happened. I know it's horrible to hear them cry but it was soon over and it cracked the problem. Hope it helps x x
