Hi everyone - I have a seven year old son who has become afraid to sleep in his own room or be in a room by himself for the past month. The first week when he came into our room I would move over and let him into our bed because it only happened a few nights. However, the second week it happened every night and my husband and I would send him back into his bed but he wouldn't stay there long. He would come back into our room shaking and his eyes would be filled with fright. Week three and four we made a bed for him in our room and allowed him to sleep in there. He can't sleep in our room forever but I'm not sure how to get him to feel safe in his room again. If anyone has any suggestions or advice please share, we would greatly appreciate it.

Thanks
Amiinah

Hi Alli - thanks for your comment. He shared with us that back in Oct./Nov. (after he got his new bed) that he had a dream he was being attacked by a monster and when he called out for his daddy and myself we didn't hear him. I'm just wondering why it took him so long to be afraid of sleeping on his own. That dream happened about 7/8 months ago. I'm thinking something else must have happened recently but he hasn't said so. Also, he has a night light and a lamp that he can keep on.

He's old enough to talk to you about what's bothering him. Ask him. Use a brighter nite light, my boys like the star nite light. It shines on the ceiling as they fall asleep then it goes off after about 30mins. He could get up and turn it back on when he wakes up at nite.
