Anyone's 3yo sleep walk? I'm sure our daughter was sleep walking last night when she colored herself head to toe in marker. She seemed fine when I first discovered her, but I think I woke her up--not realizing she was asleep--and she was suddenly terrified. It was unnerving. Should I consult our physician?

I called the pediatrician and we have an appointment late this week. The sleep walking/marker episode was very unsettling for my husband and I. I've never seen our daughter that scared before. I do know that I used to sleep walk, it runs in the family.

My almost-10-year old sleep walks - he has left the house more than once. Worse, he can turn off the alarm code while he is sleepwalking so sometimes the alarm doesn't alert us that he has left. The dr. said that someone who is sleepwalking can do anything that they can while they are awake. So he now doesn't know the alarm code - but I don't know what to do about the doors themselves. I was going to put a bolt up high enough that he can't reach, but it's a fire hazard. The dr. has recommended a sleep study, which we will do in a few weeks. I don't know what we'll find out, except that he sleepwalks! I would talk to the dr.; it can possibly lead to a dangerous situation.

Just the other night my 3 year old walked into my room, tapped my in my arm, I screamed silly and she didn't even flinch, she just stared at me, she was unresponsive and I just pull her in bed with us and woke up surprised she was in our bed. I am used to sleepwalking people though. You might want to tell your physician about it, but it's 'normal' if someone else (signifcant other or your sibblings) sleep walk too

I would call the fam doctor. My son did that until he was 6. Only he thought the toilet was behind his bedroom door.  Also try, sleeping in her room with her to see what she does because the doctor my ask you this

Yes! Definately talk to her pediatrician about this. There could be a number of things that are causing this. It's best for a professional to help you with this.

My 7yo sleep walks and has done this for about a year now.  I checked with our family doctor and they said there is nothing you can do except make sure the doors and windows are locked so he can't get out and direct him back to his bed.  We have found our back door open - not sure if he has actually has gone outside.  We now double lock our doors.  They also said he should grow out of it but I can't remember what age.  I think its around ten.  I get up and check on him atleast once a night!
