My 10yr old son started sleepwalking, he's done it 3 times and it really scares me im afraid he might hurt himself. He has ADHD and is on Ritalin and has been for 3 years now and it might have something to do with it. I just wanted to know if anyone out there has a sleepwalker would love any info on how to keep him safe at night.

My boyfriend was a sleepwalker when he was a young child. His mother used to put damp towels on the floor starting from his bed to the doorway so that by the time he got to the doorway he'd "wake up" a bit, and go back to bed. It helped him a lot, and eventually stopped sleepwalking as he got a bit older.

My daughter has done it several times. We talked with her pediatrician about it and apparently it happens more than people realize. We used the baby gate at the top of the stairs so she couldn't fall down, but still had bathroom access. Sometimes it seems to happen if she ate something too late at night, but mostly for us, it tends to happen when things are busy and hectic. We think it may be a feeling of left out so we take some time to rock her or read with her. Instrumental music seems to help her sleep deeper as well and keep her in bed...Good Luck

Not sure what advice to give for a 10 year old. I was a sleepwalker & my mother put eye hook locks on the front & back door to keep me in the house. There were no stairs in the house for me to fall down & I never hurt myself. My oldest daughter is also a sleepwalker but she's only 3.5 & she sleeps with me so I get up & watch her when she's doing it so she won't get hurt. I'm not sure if I would put a gate up in his doorway because he may fall over it.

Put a baby gate in his doorway. my three year old sleep walks, and we sometimes use the gate.
