smells during pregnancy?

I couldn't go near my dogs for the first 3 months! I used to the be one to take care of feeding them, etc, but had to pass the job to my husband. I would almost vomit just walking past them. And one day we went shopping and bought shallots (so yeah, very similar to onion smell) and I had to put the window down and hang my head out of the car on the way home. Luckily we only live a block away from the shop. We only drive there as a means to transport the groceries home.

With my son I couldn't stand the smell of garlic, fried chicken,or dryer sheets.

I didn't like the smell of cooked meat like steak, fish, etc. with lots of garlic and stuff. (of course, I love myself a good steak smothered in garlicy sauce! yum!) I ate lots of raw veggies, fruits, and vegetable soups and curries and did Greek yogurt smoothies and lots of greens because my midwife was worried about my protein and iron intake.

I could not stand the smell of fish or seafood of any kind with both my pregnancies.I always disliked the smell but during my pregnancies it just made me want to vomit. I also could not stand the smell of my husband's aftershave/perfume...to this day I still dislike it and I loved it before. I was much more sensitive in the second pregnancy though. Onions is a funny one!!!!

I have had an increased sensitivity to smells with both my pregnancies. With my first I couldn't stand the smell of any meats cooking and my husbands cologne smelled aweful. Poor guy had to change deodorant and cologne 3 times during that pregnancy. This time around any strong smells bother me. I can't let dishes sit in the sink or anything because the littlest things really smell bad. Also I can't eat some foods I used to like, like hard boiled eggs, they just smell rotten to me now. Another interesting thing is that my hearing has gotten a lot clearer and the littlest of sounds seem so loud to me. My husband keeps having to turn up the radio or the tv for him and my daughter.

I have a friend who never had morning sickness when her husband worked night shift and she didn't see him until the afternoons. She got up and ready for work everyday and was never sick. However, when she was 4 1/2 months pregnant, her husband changed to a day shift job, and she would be fine until he kissed her goodbye, then she would throw up. She didn't tell him at first and tested it by leaving early without kissing him. No throwing up! Then the next day when he kissed her goodbye, yep, puke! Haha! He was understanding though!

Ugh! Coffee! I never really liked coffee in the first place, but when I got pregnant with my first daughter just the slightest whiff of it would disgust me. One morning I walked in the corner mini-mart intending to get a chocolate milk before work when the smell of freshly brewed coffee hit me as I opened the door. I immediately started drooling & gagging. I turned running out the door, hopped back in my car, & hurried for the office bathroom. LOL. I had to leave.

I know this is going to sound weird, but with my first pregnancy nothing bothered me or made me sick. With this pregnancy same thing except I have sort of a craving to smell my DH bodywash or deodorant I buy extra so I can smell it. Has anyone else had experiences like this?

Pennies I feel like some my hair or skin smells in pennies. Pee makes me gag it never bother me so much I have a 2 year old who poops in the toilet thanks god, but she can't always make it to peep so some morning I want to throw up! Beer makes me so sick or the smell of scotch. I always hated beer, cause my dads drinking problem I grew up with, but it's magnified. Smoke makes me sick too and I use smoke socaially. I hate being around smokers. Breath bothers me I always want his teeth brushed when we are getting intamate.

With my 2nd the smell of old coffee ( anything over 20 minutes old). With my 3rd nothing made me sick but my sense of smell was very strong and I could tell you what the people down the hall were cooking for dinner and in the early morning I could tell within a one mile radius where the skunks were on my way to work.

When I was pregnant, I could tell exactly what fast food was being eaten. I went in the breakroom at work and knew that someone was eating an Arby's sandwich, someone else had McDonald's french fries, and another person had chicken from Burger King... maybe it was b/c I couldn't have carbs and had gestational diabetes??? I dunno... But the one thing that made me most sick was the taste, touch, and smell of Macaroni and Cheese... I was fine beforehand, but during my pregnancy, even the mere thought of Mac and Cheese was so sickening, that I had to put it at the back of my cabinet on the very top shelf and avoided it like the plague. Now I'm fine w/Mac and Cheese and can eat it. Also, I didn't like Kiwi.



I know it's off subject, but I absolutely LOVED Babybell Cheese to the point where my husband told me that I needed to find a new craving b/c it was getting too expensive. I then could eat a bag of red seedless grapes in 2 days and want more.

When i was preagnant with my twins the smell of bacon frying. It would make me so sick I felt as if I was going to pass out. I'd have to go i the other room and shut the door and lay down when my husband made the stuff.Laundry detergent,candles, air fresheners

Everything smells much stronger when I'm pregnant, but not much of it makes me sick anymore. Everything tastes really weird sometimes especially watermelon.

Oh let's see....the spice aisle in the grocery store or my spice cabinet, the inside of cars, the apartment building hallway, cardboard, newspaper, old wood, lavender, vinyl hand bags...

Any strong smell made me nauseated. Some examples were chicken, ground beef, garbage.

I could not handle the smell of fish or peanut butter for the first half of my pregnancy. The last half I couldn't handle the smell of any type of alcohol. And I had to deal with that a lot, I was doing housekeeping at a hotel, and man do people drink alot during weddings... bottle and cans of alcohol everywhere! *barf*

My husband made me vomit during pregnancy too, luckily he took it quite well. My problem was twofold, firstly almost all deodrants he tried made me feel sick. Secondly he is a foot and 5 inches taller than me so I had to ask him to either sit down when talking to me or stand a few feet back because looking up at him made me sick.
It wasn't really funny at the time but looking back it makes us laugh.

Any "girlie" smelling thing. I absolutely HATED Bed Bath and Beyond. It is a glorified smell store and even now, after 3 yrs, I still can't stand to be in there more than a few minutes. All the different smells so strong, and ugh!

The one thing that really got me with my first one, was the smell of beer. I've always hated the smell anyway, and never drank the stuff, but my ex would always leave his empties around the house that I of course would have to clean up, and every time I did, I would have to run straight to the bathroom. With my last, it was the smell of cigarettes. My husband has always smoked, but never in the house, car, or anywhere around us, but the smell on his clothes would make me gag, and kissing him, forget it! He did stop just for me though. He's such an awesome husband!

With my daughter I was very sick and any strong smell turned my stomach and sent me running to the toilet. My sences became very strong and I could smell most things before anybody else, I could also hear better. Strange but true. The worst smell for me was coffee. Not freshly brewed but talking to someone who had just drank some, boy that did make me gag.

Your poor husband he must feel quite self consious. Bless him!
