Social Skills and Social Speech for 3 1/2 year old boy

My son does talk but mainly to me and the amount he does say is where it should be, It seems that his social speech skills may be lacking as he does not seem to talk much at his day care to the teachers or other children. I notice the other kids in his class will have conversations with each other but my son does not seem to do this. Has anyone sent their child for social skills speech therapy at this age and did it help ? Or are boys slow to develop this part of their language. ?

I would talk with his teacher - does she think it's just a shyness thing or is she concerned too?

Actually, get him into speech therapy. My 3.5 SS is just about to get into speech therapy too. It is pretty common for boys to be a little slower in speaking like the other kids his age, but it still requires a specialists attention to help them along.
He will get one on one time with the specialist, and will also get to be in a class with kids in the same position. It really helps them out at this age more than any other. And, depending on the state you are in, he may qualify for state paid speech therapy for simply not being able to communicate at the same level as kids his age. No income requirements.
My nephew went through the same and so did my brother. They turned out just fine.

No its not boys. My oldest was the chattiest kid ever. He'd talk to anyone, anytime.



He is probably what I would call "shy" but is now being called the sensitive child. My middle child is sensitive. He's lucky he has his older brother and outgoing younger sister to break the way for him.
