My son is almost 7 months old and he used to drink four 8oz bottles a day and now hes only drinking 5 oz a bottle I have no idea if this is due to teething all the clinics and doctors are closed around me due to thanksgiving , and his soft spot is also a bit sunken in but if he doesnt drink all his bottle he tops it off with water shortly after he is not dhydrated I know that but what ould be the reason for drinking less milk and the slightly sunken soft spot?? he has wet diapers and so on please help me

Have you tried him with straws? They take a lot less suction than sippy cups. My daughter went straight from the breast to straw cups. They're a whole lot easier!

my son has a cleft so he can only use special bottles until his surgery so that kinda leaves me with no options lol he was born with a small hole in the back of his mouth ( you would never know he has a cleft ) but cause of that whole he cant suck as strong as a normal baby would be able too

there is a bottle out there made by Nubby that has a transition nipple that looks and feels like a sippy cup but is more like a bottle he may like that better. Or he may be like my little guy and just not like formula or milk. My son is now 9 and to this day he still hates milk. Just keep being persistent

Yep all four of mine have always had slightly sunken soft spots i wouldnt worry about it as long as you are getting plenty of wet nappies.

this has always happened to my little man - when sitting up the skin is pulled down over the head so the soft spot appears sunken. When he laying down it appears normal! To test for true dehydration check your little ones mouth - a dry mouth and a slightly coated tongue as well as sunken eyes and no wet nappies in 12 hours is more of an indication of dehydration. Just keep offering water if you are concerned. If he is having more food then it is only natural to reduce the amount of milk he wants - my little man used to take it all still and then vomit up what he didn't truly need so be thankful yours is stopping before overfilling!

Many babies begin to feed and eat less at 7 months. At 7 months their growth slows right down so they dont need as much food. It is normal for a baby to gain very little weight, or none at all, between 7 and 12 months. If he seems otherwise well, does not have a temperature, is well hydrated, does not appear in pain, then this may be all it is.

Has his solid food intake increased? Babies also naturally start drinking less milk as they are ready for more solid food. It is a little early for it, but he may be transitioning from milk to food as his main source of nutrition. Usually this happens around 10 months but all babies are different. Try offering more solids and see if he takes it.

At the end of the day, so long as he is hydrated and not loosing weight he is probably fine.

Just keep trying. Sunken soft spots mean he is getting dehydrated, so does need a bit more. If you he's not waking during the night, wake him to feed every few hours for now. Count his wet diapers. Feel his mouth - if it feels dry, get him in to the emergency room immediately. Keep an eye on his temperature - he may not be ill, but refusing to eat and getting dehydrated can make your temperature increase, just like running a car without water can make it overheat. If you suspect he's teething, try Ibuprofen (check bottle for dosing) as it reduces swelling and pain, while Tylenol only reduces pain, or try Oragel on his gums before feeding, or even give him a damp frozen washcloth to chew on.
