my son is 18 weeks old and i know of quite a few people with babies the same age that have already started on solids, is it just me thats nervous of giving solids this early? there must be a good reason why they tell you to wait til 6 months.

All three of my babies were started on solids early as they were big babies and not content on milk alone. My eldest two were on baby rice at about 16 weeks, and my daughter had terrible trouble with milk and reflux so she was put onto solids at 10 weeks old by her doctor. If your baby is content and not chewing his wrists or wanting to feed more and more often then wait until he is six months there is no rush. If the signs are there that he wants more then just start him on a teaspoon of baby rice once a day, when he can tollerate that then gradually give twice a day and three times a day and then gradually increase the amounts. You know your baby well so you will know when he is ready.
