My son is a freshman in college and is currently dating a girl who is still in high school. He goes to college out of state and is only home for school breaks. Although I don't mind him dating, the problem is that he less time with his family when he comes home because he is with her family. When he is with us he is texting her and other members of her family. His attitude is very rude and he is disrepectful. Both my husband and I work very hard to support him while in college and to pay for his airline tickets home for school breaks. When I ask him to stop texting and give us his attention he gets angry. When I ask if she can spend time here instead he gets angry. When I remind him that we deserve respect he gets angry. When I remind him how much both me and his father do for him he gets angry. I even went so far as to tell him from now on he would have to pay for his own way home. This of course made him very upset. Is there a better way of handling this?
