My son has eczema and since he was born I am not able to use lotions, bath soap, or laundry detergent with smell. I really don't know what to. Sometimes it is really bad and other times not. What should I use?

My son has mild eczema. We are able to keep it under control by using Aveeno Soothing Relief Moisturizing Cream (sometimes I add a little baby oil or baby oil gel) and moisturizing his legs and arms (where he has it) 3 times a day. I only bathe him every other day and I wash him with Aveeno Wash. For laundry we still use Dreft (the one with the baby on the bottle). It has worked for us. Moisturizing 3 times a day is key though.

you should try Aquaphor. My peditrician recomended it and it worked wonders on my daughter. All the spots were clear w/ in about a week and when we see a new one pop up we just put someone and it is gone w/ in one - two days.

You can also try Cetaphil products. They are fragrance-free and dye-free. They also offer soaps that are detergent-free. They do not have a baby line, but the regular products are gentle enough. While it does cost a bit more, it is generally well worth it. (I've used these products for years on my own eczema.) In terms of laundry detergent and the like, pick anything that is dye-free & fragrance-free. I use All Free & Clear and Downy Free & Sensitive w/ Bounce Free dryer sheets.

Some people have had luck using vinegar in place of fabric softener (to take that chemical issue out of the equation). I've not used it myself, but my understanding is that 1/2 cup of vinegar per load does the trick. Just be sure not to use if when you're using bleach, as that is dangerous.

Hello Samantha,

I know what you are going thru. My son was the same way. I had to use everything with no smell and never could use any kind of lotion on him. I tried everything on the market and nothing would help him out. Even went to the doctor and got the cream from them, but never worked either. It just mad him cry because it burned him. I know that it looks like a black hole that you are going into, but I have wonderful news for you. There are some wonderful products out there that does help. I just recently switch to a more healthier and safter store for my family and myself. These products are all toxin/chemical free. I was very scared to switch because everything has made my son's ecezma flare up, but I have to say that these did not. We have been using them for almost 2 months now and his ecezma is really under control. His skin is like a new born babies skin and he never had that before. The lotion that helps so much is called ReNew and it is just wonderful. I have also switch all my bath soaps, laundry care, and the rest of my house and the only thing that you can tell is that his skin is so much healthier. I would love to talk to you more about these wonderful products and how it can help out your family. Please visit my website or just send me a message on here.

Thanks,

Torey

Aveeno Baby works great or gold bond there both unscented!
