Talk to a trained herbalist about taking any herbal teas during pregnancy. I was waiting to take rasberry tea to closer to my due date. When I talked to my herbalist he told me that he felt I was going to be early (She arrived a week early) and told me it was too late for rasberry leaf to prepare the uterus for birth. I was given Squaw Vine. There are quite a few teas that can help prepare the uterus for birth but they all work slightly differently and are not all recommended at various stages of pregnancy (even close to the due date). Best of luck with it all...

I drank red raspberry leaf tea all through out my pregnancy. My midwife told me it was safe thru out my pregnancy. She said it improved uterine tone.

My nurse midwife told me to start drinking it at 36 weeks to start thinning my cervix. She said to drink it a couple times a week. So I got the 3rd Trimester Tea from Babies R Us. The day before I went into labor, I was already 50 percent thinned. I don't know if it was the tea or not.

I'd really give the tea a go too. It can strengthen contractions. I really believe this is why my labour was so short - and painful too, ; because I was having really strong contractions and they did the job well in a small space of time.
Definitely something I'll be drinking later on in this pregnancy!

i am not wanting to get my little boy out in a hurry, just to make things clearer.
i am having him at a birthing unit, which has strict guidelines that say i can only give birth there if it is between 38 and 42 weeks. anytime outside this i have to go to another hospital.
i am having a waterbirth, thats why i want to ensure i give birth in this 4 week period.
i have heard raspberry leaf tea can take some time to start the process so just wanted to see when to start to benefit best from it.
of course i want to meet him now, but i am not being impatient.
ive noticed now though that having sex causes braxton hicks contractions for me so i do believe that it will be quite an effective method when the time comes : )

Midwives recommend that you don't take it before 37 weeks (I think) as it stimulates the womb and brings on contractions. I started drinking it about 2 weeks before I was due. I was one day early and my labour lasted 1 hour 20 minutes!!
It was my first baby and my son was born withing 20 minutes of getting to hospital. Was it the tea? Who knows?! I also had sex on the morning of my delivery so I like to think it was a combination of the two!!!
I'm pregnant at the moment and I know that 2 weeks before my due date, I'll be swigging raspberry leaf tea and getting very friendly with hubby! ;-)

I would not recommend taking anything that could cause early labor. I was a little over 5 weeks early when my water broke and I had to get several shots and medications to help parts of the baby to develop that were still not fully developed at that time such as lungs. It can be very harmful to force early labor. Be patient you do not have much longer to wait.

I totally agree, do not try to induce your own labour at least until you are alot closer to your due date. 31 weeks is way to early. Your baby has alot of growing to do in the next 9 weeks, which to us isnt all that long but to a growing baby is huge!

I was nervous to try it until I was due, it potentially could start your contractions. I think this might be a little early. But once your due date comes and goes, it should be OK. Ask your doc.
