Starting Cereal- 4 months old

The rule of thumb is between 4 an six months. I'm assuming he can hold his head up and that's why your doctor greenlit the cereal. They prefer you not feed them cereal from the bottle, but with a spoon. Just make it nice and soupy, using one or two teaspoons of cereal to start. You should do it once they seem interested in your food. My DD is 16 weeks and doesn't seem interested, so I plan to wait closer to 6 mos.

I started my daughter at three months, she was eating rice cereal and she loved it.I gave her what it said on the back, five tablespoons, and made it soupy. and then she started sleeping through the night.

I would wait another 2 months before starting him on solid foods. At 4 months, his little stomach isn't ready to digest anything other than breastmilk or formula.

if he drinks his bottles at room temp, then that will be just fine for the cereal too. i never warm up any of my 6 1/2 month old's food. start off with 2 Tablespoons of cereal and enough formula to make it thin, but not too thin(like real watery). then when he gets used to it after a few weeks, add another tablespoon, and start making it a little thicker

When my son was two and half months.. his formula was not filling him up.. My dr told me to give him pablum with his formula mixture three times a day.. But do not put it in his bottle.. If you have a special bouncy chair for him, put him in that and spoon the formula into his mouth.. Just warm it up enough to take the coolness off of it.. I gve my son about 2 tablespoons wiht his formula mixture and then gave him his regular formula milk in his bottle and if he did not like it , i would mix baby vanilla custard in with his cereal and he loved it. It filled him up ....

Laura, yea my ped said usually he would say cereal twice a day, but since my son is so big for his age that he suggests only once a day for right now. he just turned 4 months saturday and he weighs 17 lbs. 9 oz. haha! hes a big boy!! so after adding the cereal and formula, you just add however much water you need?

I started my daughter on 1tbsp of cereal twice a day. I just added formula from her bottle and made it soupy to start and thickened it until she got use to it.

When I started my first two on rice cerial, I pumped some milk to mix into it... wich meant it was slightly warm. Whatever he's used to will probably work.

my little girl started at 4months on farex rice cereal n she loved it- i just made the consistency a like runny porridge i did about 2teaspoons or cereal to approx 30mils of milk try this n if you think it is too thick just add a little more milk- it does thicken a bit so stir it n give it 2mins or so to make sure it dosent thicken up too much. then as he gets better at eating you can just add more cereal!!

no i didn't plan on it, but i didn't know that it constipated them either.. switching it up sounds like a good idea though...

My ped recommended that I start my 4 month old on 2Tablespoons of cereal twice a day added with one scoop of formula.

Constipates them , its doesn't happen with every baby but when my son was 4months old I started giving him rice cereal and he got very constipated my doctor told me it was from the rice and to put him on oats , Are you planning on giving him rice one night and oats another night ? thats what my sister does with her 5months old and he seems to be doing good!

it usaully says how much to give him on the box of baby cereal.. and if he drinks his bottles at room temperature then he will probably take his cereal at room temperature.What kind of cereal are you starting him out on ?? Just curious because i heard rice cereal binds babys up pretty bad , i started my son out on oats
