my son did the same thing, and we would get on to him and tell him not to do that because some times he would make himself sick, after he realized he got a reaction out of us for doing this it became a game to him and he would do it in the car all the time just to get a rise and some attention from us..

My son does the same even now...though I find it a little annoying, I notice the less I make of it... the less he does it. But since I made a big deal about it the first several time he did it... it's been a tough habit to break. Wish I had some advise... but will sympathy work? Lol!!! I said for awhile, that I thought I had the only bulemic child on the planet... however he does it very little now... Good luck!!

My girl is doing this on & off. It seems she is just curious & then seems a little shocked by the gag reflex. She feels around on her tongue & sometimes puts all 3 middle fingers into the back of her mouth causing herself to gag. I think they are just being curious. My little one is almost 2 and has been doing this for at least 5 months.

Thank you all so much for taking the time to share your experience's with me.I am glad its nothing to be so concerned about and mostly due to teething.I have to say i made a big deal at first so like you moms said shes doing it for fun or attention now.I guess she will just grow out of it.Thanks again everyone.

my daughter did this also she would do it if she was mad most of the time. she actually made herself vomit,i thought she was just doing it for attention. i found when i just ignored her and didn't make a big fuss about it she stopped

my daughter did this around 1 year too, the first time it was by accident, but a friend made the mistake of laughing at her so she kept doing it and thought it was funny. I kept telling her no, and slapping her hand (not hard) everytime she did it. After a few days she stopped. Shes 18 months now and has maybe done it once or twice since.

i dont tend to do much about it nor do i react to it! shes usually kind of distracted when shes chewing on her fingers so its an accident when she goes to deep and she knows to pull her fingers out! i always keep an eye on her, of course! i figured this stage will pass soon enough and she will have started doing somethng else that i'll be freaking out about! hehe ;)

I keep foster children, mostly babies, and have seen this alot. When they are teething is mostly when I see them do it. I usually just re-direct them to something else.

My daughter used to do that, I think it was because she was teething, She will eventually stop doing it, I don't think it is anything to worry about, when she does it just remind her not to go so far back.

My baby girl did that. She actually made herself throw up a couple of times. anytime she started it again, I would remove her hand and tell her no, then distract her with something else to do. If you think its her teeth- give her a popsicle, or a frozen washrag, something she was get back there to relieve them. She very well could be doing it to get a reaction from you (which is what my daughter was doing, her siblings and their friends thought she was hysterical and were laughing, so she kept doign it.)

That could be a possibility. But also has anything changed in her life recently? If something has changed she may be doing this to deal with how it is making her feel or she could be doing it to get attention.
