stop breastfeeding @ 6months, but DO NOT want to put him on formula. Can anyone help me with this?

I agree that you might find the demands less and easier to keep up with breastfeeding wise. You could do a mix of breastmilk and formula. Feed in the morning and after work or something, formula during the day. That's what a lot of women do here when they go back to work around the 1 year old mark. It might gradually lead to full time formula, but that's still a good option.

To each their own right? We don't eat humans but many eat animals. Just the way it is. I would not feel comfortable using another womens breast milk.

Goats milk is a good alternative for breast milk but thats after a year.

The only alternative in this case would be a milk bank. Still, its breast milk or formula. Anything else would be nutritionally inadequate.

Pump, or give formula. I hear goats milk is a good alternative at least back in the day it was. You may want to ask your pediatrician, but do not give cows milk. It is to hard on their tummies.

Formula is specifically designed for babies. It is the best thing for him if you're not going to breastfeed, a lot more healthy for him than any other kind of milk. I agree with Kelina - start pumping now and you will have a good backup supply for when you are not around to feed him. If you pump once a day, 1 hour after your first feeding, you will build up a good supply in no time.

you could try pumping during the day so that his caregivers can use that. That way he's getting breastmilk and you're still able to breastfeed at night, as well as you don't have to pay for formula.

Thank you all. I need to find a job and go back to school & wont be able to breastfeed during the day. I herd that you could use skim or silk milk around that that time and i was trying to see if anyone else knew anything better? I dont mind doing it right now, but im a single mommie and living with my parents and they dont have the patience to comfort him if he cries so Im doing this all by myself. & the formula, i dont want to use it because its not really all that healthy for him. (too many different ingredeants)

He really needs to be on breast milk or formula until at least 12 months. Anything else and you risk jeopardizing his health and well being.



6 months isn't the 'least time' to stop breastfeeding. It's the time that you can START adding solids into the diet. WHO recommends breastfeeding til 2 years of age or beyond and AAP recommends 12 months or beyond. Key words being 'or beyond.'

Brittney, I think this is a case of an exhausted new mommy talking :) At 2 months his feeding demands are a lot greater with more frequency than they will be at 6 months. I say focus on now, and take it one day at a time. You can get "me time" now by expressing a bottle or two and giving the bundle to a loved one to feed and burp while you get some R&R.

I can tell you that by 6 months he will eat quickly, not fall to sleep while he is eating and will have lots of other food groups to keep him full.

I admit, when I took my daughter off the breast it was slow weaning. I still breast fed in the morning and evening but during the day, at 9 months old, I gave her cow's milk. I don't know if that is good advice but I saw it as no different than giving her juice with her meals.

I then weaned her completely at 11 months and she went full time to cow's milk.

LOL, Kelina, I read that site. Seriously, I think you will find that primitive mommy would be right into breast is best. Brittney, why do you not want to breastfeed beyond 6 months if you have such a problem with formula?

maybe try asking here oor looking through some of her stuff they often have good suggestions. http://primitivemommy.com/ We are often told that breastmilk and formula are the only options but I don't think that's strictly true. I don't know much about it but the ladies on primitive mommy will.

A 6 month old needs breast milk or formula. If you don't want to put him on formula, keep him on breast milk. If you switch to something else he could end up malnourished.
