My five month old daughter refuses the bottle when we offer her one, and since we are going to start introducing solids soon I was wondering if any other moms skipped the bottle all together? and if so how did you do it!

Nubbies i think arethebest Sippy cups out there if you are starting out. They have the straw c up and sippy cup. My daughter used them for while but she loves tochew them to pieces. Another cup she ues is playtex is has two handles. I love it cause it dosnt leak and she has to use her sucking skills to get milk or juice out. We didnt use it at first as itwas hard for her that why we use the nubby b ut now she can use her playtex cup and she loves to carry it around.

If your baby's breastfed, you can try the sippy cups with the straws. Playtex makes some that have soft flexible straws, my 10 month old son loves them! He's been using them for several months now. Sucking on the straw is similar to nursing, and it's easier for him because he doesn't have to tilt the cup up to drink. He would just play with the regular sippy cups, he liked to hold them by the handle and bang them on his highchair, fun! When I first gave him a cup with the straw, I put the straw in his mouth and gently squeezed the cup so the liquid came up through the straw so he got the idea. I only had to do that a couple times and he got it. I haven't given him breast milk in a cup though, I can't pump out enough to make it worth the effort, I just nurse him!

My daughter also went straight to a regular cup. We just used the little glass ones, and obviously we helped her till she was much older.

Doidy cups are good if you want to go straight on to an open cup as they're on a slant so they dont need to be tipped up as much.

My daughter never would take a bottle either. I've heard from many people that its good to skip the bottle all together because its one less thing to break them from. I never could get her to take the sippy cups with the hard spouts and the spill valves. It even took an effort for me to get some liquids out. So I went for the soft spouted ones. She usually bit down so she could get the liquids out and then she started to get the sucking down and that worked for her. But I was told by a lady at WIC that its actually best to go straight to a cup. You can help them at first by tilting the cup and letting them sip on it and if they want to do it themselves let them. It will be messy and they will get soaked but they will learn. I have a friend whos toddler was already able to drink from a cup at around 1 yr or just a little older. She still gave him a sippy when they were out running around too so she didnt cut that part out completely. But with sippy cups they learn they can throw them down with out spilling and once you go to a cup you have to break them of that. I wish I listened and went that route because she tosses the cups all the time. Anyways I just slowly offered her a sippy cup with water at her meals and after awhile she eventually got the hang of it herself. Its takes a little while but she will get it! I hope this helps

My daughter has always refused a bottle so we have gone straight to a normal sippy cup. We just give it her with water in when shehas food. She still wont drink expressed milk from it though!

My daughter did the same thing. She acting like she was gagging everytime we put a bottle in her mouth so we started her on a sippy cup at four months old. We started with water since I did not want to waste breast milk if she spilled some. She took to it great and now at nine months she nurses and only takes the sippy filled with juice along with meals. We tried a couple of different cups, but she likes the Nuby ones the best. I think it is because they are the most like a breast, but she still won't drink milk from it. Hope that helps!

My son started off on the bottle because I wasn't able to nurse. But when he was 5 months I started him on sippy cups. The flow shouldn't be a problem if you purchase a spillproof cup, because they have to suck on it in order for anything to come out.

We skipped the bottle!! And I am so glad we did. One less thing to break her of now. She is still nursing but we started doing water in a sippy cup at 5 months. We used the "take and toss beginner cup" which I have only found at drugstore.com. But it is really no more than one of the snack cups with a sippy lid. But the smaller size made it easier for her to manage and they don't spill but aren't to hard to get a drink from either.

We did not skip because I was afraid the sippy cup would choke her because most of them flow too fast.

When my son was a baby the Dr. told me that sucking is a huge step that they can't skip. It coralates with motor skills. Like crawling. Some go right past crawling but it isn't that good for them. On another note, there are sippy cups out there with inserts to make it not come out as fast. Those work good.
