Swimming..

my mom took all 4 of us swimming before we was 2. my lil brother was born in may and we took him in june. and he is health as can be. im going to be taking my lil girl. my mom was a red cross lifegurad and we all knew how to swim before we where 2. your lil girl should be ok in the pool, i would get lil swimmer to put under her bathsuit, and just wash her off after your done bc of the chlorine. good luck

I took my youngest at 8 weeks and she loved it with no side affects at all as long as you don't saty in for long I think I was in for about 10 mins and back out again. It is like all things there is people who will and people who won't. It also depends on what you are reading as well. I now have a 5year old who loves the water and is having swimming lessons who can swim it also helped me to lose a wee bit of weight as well. The other thing is that it was nice to have some skin to skin contact with her.

I would say go for it you can only try and if baby doesn't like it you just get back out

Our pediatrician said there's no problem after the first shots. I started taking my daughter when she was 3 months old and she LOVES going to the pool ever since her first time (she's two and we go a couple of times a month). You'll definitely need a swim diaper, most pools won't even let you in without one, would you want to swim in a pool with someones kid who just pooped in it? Enjoy!

its just fine to take your baby swimming. and use little swimmers diapers... they sell them at stores and usually you can buy them in singles from your local pool. my daughter loves to go swimming, she kicks her feet and splashes with her hands its really cute. and at most pools babies and children swim for free, so thats a bonus! have fun!

Melissa: Perhaps what the person was talking about that told you it was unsafe to take your baby swimming was due to a new study. They are saying that infants exposed to pool water before 2 years old can develop respiratory problems.

Google "swimming causing breathing problems in infants" as there are many articles on it.

It's up to you to decide when you want to take your baby swimming. You don't need to wait until she's immunised, as the chlorine in the water will kill off any bacteria or viruses. It's probably sensible to wait until she's at least a few weeks old, because a tiny baby may feel a little cold and perhaps overwhelmed in a large public pool. Or you may want to wait until after your postnatal check at six to eight weeks. Also bear in mind that lots of baby swimming classes don't accept babies until they are twelve weeks old.



If you're planning to go regularly, it's worth investing in a couple of baby swim nappies to prevent accidents in the pool. Initially your baby will just enjoy the sensation of the water and the interaction with you, but you can start teaching her basic swimming skills from about six months of age. Ask if classes are available at your local swimming pool.



You can boost your baby's confidence in the water by keeping your face at eye level, maintaining eye contact and by smiling and talking reassuringly. Taking a familiar bath toy is a good idea as well.



Keep swimming times short at first and take your baby out if she starts to shiver, wrapping her up warmly. Avoid going swimming if your baby is unwell, too.

melissa ive just checked on google n it does say its best to wait til your baby is 6 months old so i would wait two months but thts at certain pools so i would check at your pool first

i would definately go with little swimmers - the diaper will fall apart once it's wet and no, it's actually recommended to take a baby swimming if you can - i started my son at 2 months and he LOVES the water - just give her a quick rinse afterwards to get the chlorine off her when she's done (it can sometimes irritate baby's skin if they are sensitive)

well my baby was fine n my freinds baby was fine n my freinds sister baby was fine so im not saying its untrue but it might of just affected tht baby diffrentley. u can always ask your local pool where your going to expain ur taking your 4 month swimming n is the water going to be safe for her. plus u need to try things for the first time with your baby else they am not going to know whts its like just try it if u dnt enjoy u dnt have to go again. n 99 percent of women take there children swimming ive never heard of any horrror stories apart from the obvious. have you got a sit in float for your daughter

They have diapers that are designed for swimming, so that if your child poops there are no leaks into the pool and they don't get as water logged as regular diapers. Huggies has disposable ones that you can buy most anywhere and if you google swim diapers you can find many choices of what to use.

If there is a leak many times the pool has to be closed and cleaned cause it is a health hazard.

yes melissa adults do so why not children i would just keep a eye on her or try to go after she had a number two u know. but the best thing wud do is buy sum swimmers if you ring the pool they might sell them there so u can just buy one wen u get there. i know other babies who have worn them n they was fine just check at your local pool or pop to to a shop just before u go n buy one some places sell them just on there own so its like one or u can buy a bulk pack.

Ummm NO DIAPER. . lol those things are messy ad burst once wet ! You need to get lil swimmers. Also i ahve heard that taken a child under 6 months isn't good as the chlorine in the water can harm their skin. . i heard this from a life gard. please just be careful and maybe do some research on it. but no don't use a diaper. . .to see what happens with one just put it in water and watch . .lol

im sure it would be fine if u used a swimmers nappy they sell them most places but the easy option wud just use the bathing suite
