Buy a portable dvd player and get lots of dvd's. Pack the "comfort" items, lots of favorite snacks and fun kids music to listen to.

I actually administer a site on Circle of Moms called 'Mommies who love Family Vacations'. After taking trips with my family every year since 2001, I consider myself quite amazing at traveling with kids. Please check it out and see if any tips help!

I am sure my son {2year old} will sleep some but i know that he will not sleep alot.. My daughther will not sleep much of the trip at all. Her car seat hurts her belly button.. She was born with Gastrochisis so her belly button is far from normal and anything rubbing on it cause her pain and makes her very on happy.. So we have to roll her Pants, Nappies and anything else that might rub on her little belly.. But I thank you for the thoughts and i really hope that i am wrong and you are right and they both sleep most of the trip lol... Thank you once again...

If your kids are anything like mine, and most kids i know at that age, they will probably sleep most of the way! i'm sure it will be a really nice trip for you and the kids. We've taken our 8y/o, 4 y/o, and 2 y/o on several three day trips from Montana, to mobile, alabama!

is the 2 yr old potty training? if so you may want to take a small potty with you, makes roadside pit stops easier.

I found a soft foam tray with edges on it to go on the toddlers lap in the carseat. It gives an area to eat and play and things will not roll onto the floor....there is a cup holder and a pocket on the side. It is soft so if there is an accident it will not hurt the child but firm enough to be useful. You can find it at momsminivan.com (the fisher-price one is not big enough) I hope this helps!!! Good luck.

I would just say allow yourself plenty of time in case you need to stop more than planned. For your 2 year old, a portable dvd player may help as well as something like a magna doodle. That way she can draw, erase, and you don't have to worry about her dropping and losing crayons. The one thing that has helped us the most when traveling is to travel close to their bedtime and they hopefully will sleep for the majority of the trip. Maybe get someone to keep them that day you are leaving so you can rest beforehand and then be up to drive!

I recommend giving yourself plenty of time to stop whenever you need. A dvd player would be a big help. What I did for a twenty one hour trip was pack small bags with toys. I would hand them a bag whenever they got bored. When we stopped for a break, I would pick up all the toys and put them back in that bag for another time. I would rotate bags so they wouldn't get tired of the same toys.
