This sounds AWESOME! What does it look like? I have two girls one with an Irish name and one with a welsh name. Mairead and Morgan.

My SO got a tattoo for our baby girl. It is her first and middle name above a little heart and her full birth date underneath. Me, on the other hand, I'm still thinking about mine. I was thinking maybe her footprints on my left shoulder blade and her name above it and her birth date below it. I want one for all of our kids, done the same and making like a trail of feet across my back. Good luck with it! I'm sure it will turn out awesome!

I have a tattoo of a clover surrounded by the claddaugh on my shoulder. The three leaves of the clover stand for Faith, Family and Friendship, and the claddaugh represents Love, Loyalty and Friendship. I plan on getting a smaller 4 leaf clover for each child I have surrounding the larger piece. I feel so lucky to have my little one, and the Irish believe that 4 leaf clovers are lucky because what more do you need besides faith, family and friendship other than a little luck!

if there ever was a good reason for a tattoo this is it! your babies are the one thing in life that are unconditional and forever! even if they pass. Youll never forget that love.

My Boyfriend and I are of Irish descent , Our first son, Owen James, soon to be born, will be commemorated by my boyfriend by getting an Irish cross on the inside of his left forearm, with Owens name in text along the cross. I already have a shamrock to symbolise my heritage, Iam planning to get his name and birthdate below it. I think tattoos are personal expression, a beautyful way to use the body to describe what makes us who we are! good luck!

I saw a mom with a footprint tatoo at the park a few weeks ago. . . it looked really good. 'Course baby feet are just about my favorite thing about being a mom, but from the artistic perspective I think simple is good, and the footprint is meaningful without being some kind of sappy quote or something that your child may grow up to not like!

I have tattoos that remind me of my kids. I also have thier initials hidden to only I know that they are there until pointed out. I right now have 2 of the 4 tattoos completed. I have a lizard on my ankle in the shape of an "e" and it also has an "E" in the eye for my son Emory, who loves lizards. I have a ladybug on my neck with the letter M for my daughter Maliya, as I call her bug as her nick name. My next tattoo will be a lion for my son Matt, which will include a hidden "M". I will have it on my side. Then after that I will be getting a monkey for my other son Isaac that I will put on my left shoulder blade, which it will also include a hidden "I". I also have a tattoo on my lower back of a hummingbird with a flower that signifies fragility, but strength for me. It has the initials "T and M" which are my bf's (and long time love) initials. I love all my tattoos.

I havent gotton it yet....but im doing sort of a charm bracelet thing around my ankle. For my son Im putting on this old fashion design key with his name and dates engraved on it because he is the key to my heart and my happiness. Im putting a cross on it...and I will add to it with each child I have a symbol for then with thier dates engraved...something that suites them tho. Idk that is just what Im doing!

Better get the tatoo when they are very young because when they are teenagers, you will not want it done for anything. In fact, you may wonder why you ever had children and be trying to figure out how the get the name removed. It does eventually get better though.

A friend of mine actually got his daughter's handprint at birth inside a heart on the inside of his upper arm. so sweet!! My husband and i are concidering getting similar ones for our kids too. maybe something to do w/ their astrological symbols/signs and angel wings for me. kind of like a guardian angel over them at all times. OR a chinese character for peace and prosperity w/ their names. who knows....

Kelly,

One thing you should do before getting a tattoo is check out the artists work. It is so important because it is so permanent and for life.

I was told if you were to get any Chinese or Japanese writing make sure its someone who knows the language.Because I was told sometime mixing different combination can mean something total different when add together.

I would definitely check into that. Also check into what fonts last the longest I heard that some fonts fade or bleed too soon and then you have to have them redone.

Find something that mean something to you or your children like a favorite toy or something they like doing. A friend has a T-Rex head with child's name done because his son love T-Rex.

Yes, PLEASE make sure you check out the artists profile and make sure that you like his/her style of tattooing.  My hubby is a tattoo artist and so i have seen some horible pieces that he has had to fix (that others have done, not him! lol). if you have any questions, feel free to send me a message, im always glad to help if i can!

Hi Jocelyn I would really like to get a tattoo. But I am afaid if the work is done wrong .Then I am left with something I will hate. Did you see my post earlier on what I like. Do you think your husband could draw something up for me? Also where do you live? Maybe I could see this work. Thanks Sandra

Hi Sandra.  We live in Okotoks, which is just out side of Calgary, Alberta  (so for any of you locals out there...lol)  and i will certainly ask my hubby for you!  if you are not in our area (what area are you in btw? i might know a few good shops...), make sure you visit lots of different tattoo studios and look thru their portfolios.  you have to make sure that you like their style of tattooing (for instance, there is one tattoo artist i know, who is very good, but his colour is quite "blocky"  and very bright, but for certain tattoos that would work very well, but wouldn't be the best choice for say a black and grey portrait).  make sure you ask around, if you see a tattoo that is nicely done, stop the person and ask who did it (a nice place to watch for tattoos is the pool!).  also if you see a very BAD tattoo, ask as well, and don't go there lol.  some of the best work i've seen has been from artists that don't work out of a public shop (they either work out of their house or sometimes they will come to you at yours)  see if there are any tattoo conventions in your area, it is a good place to scope out different shops and actually see the artists while they are working.  if you are in a city, make sure you check out the shops in the smaller towns around the city, most of the time the price is a bit cheaper and the work is just as good. i'll post a link one of my hubbys albums on facebook.  it's just a small group, but the picture of the lips is one he did on me (it's on my foot and they are actual lip prints of my bridesmaids). http://www.facebook.com/album.php?aid=74...
