Thanks, Amy. And maybe I am expecting too much I just worry I'm not doing my job right if so many other children do more. I have no doubt that my son is capable I just want to do better.

Jessica I get the frustration when other people are comparing the kids. My nephew is a month older than my daughter, he rolled over first, crawled first, walked first, talked first it was/is incredibly frustrating for me but my daughter isn't my first so I didn't push it. At 2 she was signing a lot of words but still only speaking 10 words maybe. Now at 2 1/2 she is non stop talking, I actually can't get her to stop. If you are concerned call birth to 3 if you live in the states and they will come out to your house and do an entire evaluation on your son. Even if you don't qualify for services they will do an entire assessment and offer suggestions on what to do to build language development. Try teaching him signs so that he can communicate and if you want him to focus you're going to have to make it interesting for him.

I'm not being pushy, if anything I'm being very lax with him. I know he's not supposed to know color and numbers but he should show interest there is none. The frustrating part is he will repeat things for EVERYONE else but me. Kind of a slap in the face. I know don't take it personally but when I work on I love you for weeks with him then he says it to daddy and grandma it kind of sucks. Also I have a nephew, whom everyone compares to my son could say all his body parts, animal sounds, and count to 10 at 16 months and here my sweet boy is like... No. It can be annoying for people to say "he's just a little slow or behind" I want to pounce on them!!

If he's not talking, take him to an audiologist.
Don't worry about his knowing his colors or body parts, once he starts speaking reguarly, you'll never get him to quit. Most if it is normal for the age.

He doesn't focus? Um... he's 16 months old. Just relax and have fun with him. Read to him (if he'll let you), sing silly songs, point out and talk about the things in his world, etc.... If he's not talking closer to 2.... then talk to your doctor again. Otherwise... RELAX. :) Kids develop at their own pace and I don't yet see a reason for any real concern with your son.

My tip ia to Chill out he's 16 months your son seem's very bright for his age, I'm all for mother's teaching there children but come on, colour and numbers at 16 months! These things come with time and age, make things fun, play games, he will pick these things up. My youngest daughters is 22 months and has a low vocab and is just learning her body parts, were as my middle daughter was a great speaker by her age, point being they all grow at differnt stages but all get to the same place eventually. Don't be to pushy with him he won't Apreciat it.
