Please tell me how to help a teenager focus in school. My teenager does not have the interest to to pay attention in class, complete homework, or class work

There is no magic pill, no magic solution... at some point your child needs to snap to it and figure out that they need this free education.

Don't bitch at him. Don't whine either. Try to talk normally to him about what the future holds. My oldest had the same issues. he shuts down and shuts us out.

he's finally getting "it" and putting effort into his work. If he doesn't go to college after highschool, I'm taking his college fund and going to europe but no matter what he will be moving out, paying rent, utilities etc.

Try a math exercise with him. Minimum wage x part time hours (average here is 20 - 30 hours, 20 hours a week is more common though) average rent for an apartment, average utilities (we use our bills somewhat modified as a REAL physical example), and the grocery bill. never mind medical, dental, etc....

My son was freaked out. I pointed out there would be no extra money for x-box games, ps3 games, ds games, wireless internet, etc. heck he probably wouldn't be able to afford a cell phone either.

BUT if he goes to college, if he finds some focus we will carry as much as we can while he works on becoming a mature responsible adult. Problems with the law, bad grades, etc are NOT products of becoming a mature adult.
