Thin Cervix at 13 weeks Pregnant

I came back from my midwife appointment earlier and while there she informed me that my cervix was thin and that she was going to send me to a specialist at the state capital to see what they thought. It's got me worried because I'm not exactly sure what the risks are and I haven't had a lot of luck looking for it online. She said that it was possible that I might have to have a stitch put in but I still want to know more about it before I have to go down there. Can anybody help me?

Thank you so much! I had found something (after looking for over an hour) about the incompetent cervix and that was when I realized that's what she was probably talking about. Not sure why she just didn't come out and say it like that. lol

it sounds like she thinks you could have an incompetent cervix but wants a second opinion. It's a good thing she caught it early if you do. Some womens cervix simply can't seem to stay shut during a pregnancy, which usually ends up with the baby coming out far too early and usully not surviving. Getting a stitch put in helps keep your cervix closed and lets your pregnancy continue long enough that baby can survive outside the womb. Usually when you're getting close to term the doctor will take out the stitch so that you won't have any issue when you actually do go into labor.
